I hate to leave a negative comment on a place that seems so popular and has won so many awards, but that's probably why I'm even more disappointed and negatively amazed by my experience...
I came in last week after a stressful planning/decision making of what to do about a birthday cake for my son. A lot of people suggested this place so I figured I'd give it a try. On the phone, they told me I could get what I'd been looking for. A birthday cake with an edible picture of Thomas the Train on the top, I'd just have to find a picture to put on it, which was completely fine. Then I went into the store a few days later and spoke with one of the cake bakers and she told me I could have an image on the cake, but it wouldn't be edible... It was disappointing, but she suggested I ordered an edible photo on Amazon and they could put it on. Not the biggest deal... I called later that day to order the cake once I'd ordered the image and made up my mind... The girl on the phone told me different things than the cake decorator I'd spoken to just hours before, like how it was simple to put the image on the cake (because I was thinking of just doing it myself) compared to earlier when the cake decorator told me it even makes the people doing the cakes fairly nervous just because if you were to mess it up or leave a wrinkle, it's difficult to fix... Regardless, I ordered the cake. The girl on the phone asked when I needed it. I told her "Tuesday before noon" and ordered this cake the Friday before, making sure to ask if it was enough time when I'd called the first time over two weeks ago.
Yeah. Well... I came in today to pick it up and it couldn't be found. The woman helping me couldn't find an order placed or my cake completed or anything and acted so nonchalant about it... I was in complete awe. How could you potentially ruin a special occasion and basically just shrug at me? (Obviously it wasn't the woman helping mes fault.) But still, that's that? I've never had such an odd, unprofessional kind of situation happen... They just happened to be making a cake like the one I requested and told me they'd make it and I'd just have to wait... I stood there fuming angry, in disbelief of just how unprofessional of a situation it was, wondering how it even made sense when this place is constantly busy, won so many rewards and the last time I was there, multiple people were in and out quickly, no issues getting their cakes... I didn't ask, but I'm thinking "man, I better at least get some kind of discount because this is ridiculous". Thr woman asked me if I'd already paid, which I hadn't. Maybe I should've just said I did, apparently they wouldn't have even known and I could've just gotten the cake for free...
All in all, it was such a disappointing, unbelievable situation that I will not be...
Read moreHolland Farms is an excellent choice for anyone who likes food. They offer consistent quality and friendly staff. Halfmoons, cannolis, brownies, and even their jelly buns are some of the absolute best that you can buy. I haven't tried all of their offerings and will continue to visit them and expand my knowledge of their selection.
Their macaroni salad is my wife's favorite food of all time. If we don't get anything else, we'll just buy that. That alone is worth the trip there.
The only real consideration that most people should take into account is their limited parked and the potential for long lines depending on what time of day you visit. That simply speaks to their popularity and they're absolutely worth the wait though. If you haven't heard of Holland Farms, then you must be from out of town since all of the locals already know about them. They will also ship their delicacies to those who can't travel to enjoy their tasty treats. Perhaps sending them to friends or family is a good idea so they can enjoy what makes this local treasure so beloved in...
Read moreMy mom bought a dozen jelly donuts and a tomato pie from here in November. The donuts were delicious as always but the tomato pie was awful. My mom and I split the order. The crust was very hard and tasted stale, clearly not fresh. I reached out to Holland Farms with my concerns and a video. They asked me "Is it definitely from our store? Sorry, have to ask, since many times we find out that it's not ours lol. It's not panned out, it just doesn't look like our normal". So I sent them the receipt, a photo and mom's address since they said they'd refund it. I misspelled the zip code at first. When I corrected it in the message, they told me to "please advise" what I was saying . Maybe all of the previous messages were deleted. I explained further and my messages were all read but ignored. It's been 15 days and my mom still hasn't received a check. I gave them a chance to make it right. I don't believe they even sent out a check before the error...
