I stayed at the Traveler's Rest location with two of my teenage children for one night. I booked a room with two beds so I could share a bed with my daughter and my son could have his own bed. It was late when we arrived (around 10pm), and I used the code that was emailed to me to get into the room I booked. It would not work. I texted the number listed in the email for help with no response until the next morning. After 15 minutes of trying the code over and over again and waiting for a response, I realized that the second confirmation email I received said the door to my room was green and the name of the room was not the one I booked, but it was the room across the hall. The code worked for that room. There was a king size bed in this room. My son felt awkward sleeping in the bed with me and his sister, so he slept on the floor. I did not bother bringing it up to the inn because it was only for one night and I felt it was an honest mistake. It helped that my son didn't mind sleeping on the floor. I had to go back to the same area three weeks later and decided I'd give this place another try because our room was cute and I liked the location. I booked a room with a king sized bed in the main house. I was planning to be there with my two youngest children. Eight days before my reservation, I texted the number listed in my confirmation email about switching to a room with two beds because a friend offered to come as company since it was a long drive, and I had two little kids. I requested the coach house because it had two beds so my friend could have her own. I'm including screenshots of texts with whomever was responding to me. This person was willing to switch my room, but was slow to respond in the beginning, and eventually stopped responding to my texts. I tried calling, but they blocked my phone number. I ended up booking the second room and requested a refund for the first through email. In hindsight, I should not have booked the second room at all and just stayed somewhere, but I honestly thought that while person who was texting with me was terrible at communication, that didn't mean other employees would also be awful. I'm not sure there are other employees. Once I returned home, I used my husband's phone to call the number listed in the email, the same one I had been texting, and the same one that blocked my number. Unsurprisingly, the call from his number went through. Pam, the woman I finally spoke to on the phone, was incredibly rude. After reminding her that I WAS in communication with them about canceling the first room before the seven day period mentioned in their booking process, she agreed to refund the first room I booked. She sounded sketchy and I did not feel confident that she was being honest with me. When I pressed her on how much she would be refunding me, she became more angry and refused to give me an amount. After I asked several times for an amount, she finally gave me the amount of a full refund-which was over $600. She said she was submitting the refund "right now" while I was on the phone with her. The next day, there still was no credit to my bank account. I called from my husband's phone again, and. she said she already submitted a refund the day before. When I asked her to clarify the amount I should be looking for, she refused to tell me. I asked her to email me confirmation of the refund including the amount, and she said she was driving and would do it later. I have never received any communication from her and still no refund.|While I was at the inn, another guest came to ask if I had a way to get in touch with staff because he was having trouble. He said his bathroom door got locked with his stuff inside, and he was unable to get his belongings. He spoke to staff about it, but when he tried calling back, these were his words: "I know this sounds crazy, but I think they blocked my number. I can't get through to them anymore." Not crazy to me! I would NEVER recommend for someone to stay here. Pam is, by far, the worst person I have...

I am a local that was gifted a staycation here as a birthday present. I did not expect five star luxury but for $200 a night, I expected better. I wanna say that the location is really pretty. It's very serene and tranquil and is a nice spot for a private getaway. There were others staying there but the location was so quiet I wondered if I was alone. My problem is with the room, the grounds, and the ownership. We tried to resolve this with the inn but couldn't get ahold of leadership and the email bounced back.
My sheets were very clean, as was the toilet, sink, and basin of the tub. That said- there were marks all over the walls, mud splatter on the baseboards, quickly/cheaply done repair work, damaged walls and doors, mess left in the storage closet and mildew in the gapping of the tub. My lampshades were water stained and turned around to face the wall as if I wouldn't see them. There were dead bugs in the windowsill and corners of the room. The most irritating part is that these are all simple fixes that could be fixed with a few hours of work and a trip to Walmart.
The grounds are pretty but need maintenance. Some of the overgrowth and weather beaten stuff works given the vibe but again, a pressure washer and a few hours of focused yardwork could do a lot . There's mystery plastic behind the gazebo. The deck is rotting and there's loose boards. The pool is clean. The inn is hard to see from the road and there's no signage to tell you exactly where to go. If I booked this for an event based on the website, I'd be confused, disappointed and embarrassed.
Booking is a nightmare if you're not tech savvy. It's self serve and the owner doesn't make herself available. She's also got a reputation in the other reviews for being rude to guests who inconvenience her. When you book, you're sent an insane looking email with tiny print and a million instructions on every aspect of the stay. Idk if it's supposed to be helpful but it comes across as chaotic and lazy. The pictures on the website are not accurate to the location and you will be confused if you use them for reference. Some of the photos are even for the Greenville Inn which is more confusing.
I get the feeling this is a one to two person operation. If so, hire help. If not, get it together.
My family is from the TR area and I love it a lot so to think that travellers are coming here and thinking this is how we do things...
