Tipsy Taco — Restaurant in Travelers Rest

I visited Tipsy Taco (TT) recently and then the following night visited, with nearly an identical business model, Farmhouse Taco (FHT). This review will compare the 2 using Google Maps' 3 restaurant rating categories, with a designated winner at the end of each.

1. Food: did not care for TT's food at all. The meat was dry, as if it was sitting for too long under a heat lamp. The corn on the cob had an un-fresh quality to it, not sure how else to describe it. The chips were thin and greasy and had utterly no distinguishable seasoning. The tiny refried beans were very refried. The fries were soggy. The sautéed veggies in the fajita plate were soggy. In terms of freshness of ingredients, there really wasn't any different between TT and a SAD Mexican (SMD?) joint. By comparison, FHT seems to have fresher ingredients, crisper and well seasoned tortilla chips, and more succulent meat. Winner: FHT.
2. Service: at TT, we were greeted by multiple people. It seemed like everyone was happy to see us. This is in direct contrast to FHT which the staff really don't make you feel warm and welcome when visiting. It's almost as if you're a nuisance to them. We've been going to FHT for years though and service tends to wax and wane like the phases of the moon, depending on the current management. Winner: TT.
3. Atmosphere: toss up. They both have big screen TV's. They both have cornhole toss, though TT's is in the back and on astroturf whereas FHT is in front on concrete, so TT's is a bit more cozy. Winner: TT.

Perhaps TT and FHT could join forces, TT contributing mainly to the Service and Atmosphere and FHT responsible for the kitchen... could call it Tipsy Farmhouse? I'd go there.

Final Rating for...

If this was in Marietta I’d say this is par for the course and wouldn’t leave a review, but the food scene in TR is just so far above what Tipsy offers… the service was truly great, despite them being so busy, and the atmosphere was great. The food was just really sub par.

This isn’t a specialty taco place like white duck or farmhouse, it’s a generic Mexican restaurant with just really slap stick food. The salsa, queso, guac, taste like they just came off the Sysco truck directly. The tacos were the same. It’s like if Chilis/applebees were a Mexican restaurant.

Farmhouse is a really lame taco restaurant compared with Chicora and White duck; this is below Farmhouse.

First visit. Food was great. But it was 92 degrees outside, and the temperature inside was not much cooler, maybe 80 degrees. I sweat the entire time. Time was 130pm so we both had lunch specials. Food was fine, came out quickly. But our server left something to be desired. We sat there for quite a while while she tended to everyone else around us. She finally came over and we asked for a box. She said Are you ready for the check? Yes I said, while wiping sweat. She brought the check, and never came back. She went back and forth several times.
