One of the many smaller locally owned restaurants around, the Greek House is exactly as it's name implies. It serves Greek inspired foods, many of which are originally Greek dishes. Their Greek Fries were less fries and more like baked potato wedges, they are a bit dry and very unseasoned. However the Eggplant Fries were delicious, and the Greek Yogurt Dip included with them was a great pairing. I myself ordered the Spanakopita, having eaten the dish provided by a previous neighbor. This Spanakopita was more to my tastes, having a crunchier exterior and not being too thick with the spinach and feta cheese. It came with a Greek Salad, however I wasn't a fan of tomato wedges, cucumber slices, and green olives; so I passed it off to my father. Afterwards I had some of the Almond Butter cookies, but found they were less Almost Butter and more just Almond cookies; disappointing. The restaurant is also another one of the many "No Free Refills" on anything besides water, so expect to shell out the cash if your a thirsty fellow. Overall, it was a good meal, though both my father and I were thankful we were not ones paying, as this was quite the...
Read moreI was really excited after reading some of the reviews but was disappointed once I opened up the containers. I’ll start off with the positives, the taste is great! Everything was flavored nicely. But there wasn’t enough of it. When you order a 19 dollar dish you expect more than 4 tiny pieces of meat and tiny side of potatoes. The meat itself one piece was completely inedible and I had to spit it out after I nearly chipped a tooth on it . The bread was tasty and that was the only thing they give you enough of. My husband ordered the gyro and I called to make sure they substitute the French fries for potatoes- they didn’t! and there was also 4 pieces of gyro on top of like 10 French fries. I’m really disappointed as I was really looking forward to this place. The Greek salad was just tomatoes and cucumbers and 1 tiny piece of feta cheese. It’s disappointing that when you order such an expensive dish and you feel like you got ripped off. Food is good but I suggest you increase your portions and make it worth your prices or reduce the price accordingly. It left a little to be desired. Definitely not worth the 40 dollars...
Read moreI would probably rate it more highly, but there are a lot of really exciting restaurants in Troy that I prefer. We felt it was overpriced and the food was just good, not great. We had two appetizers, two full meals, two beers, and a soft drink for $ 70 not including tip. Don't order wine- it's about 2.5 oz for $7 for the house red- they were gracious enough to allow me to return it and order a beer instead. My husband enjoyed the grape leaves. My son had the spanakopita-- it was really delicious. I ordered the vegetarian gyro and didn't enjoy it as well. The pita was a little chewy as if it had been warmed over in a microwave. The service was great, possibly because we were the only customers. We visited at 8pm on a Tuesday night during an on-campus event at RPI, when they were one of the few restaurants we could find open, so it was surprising they had so little business. They probably have a bigger lunch crowd. The decor is a little dumpy and the lights are too bright for...
