I stared at the flatiron building in disbelief. How could a full service, independent book store be standing in downtown Troy? I had been panhandled the moment I stepped off the bus, and yet Market Block Books sells bestsellers and books off the back list one block over from the panhandling district. I even see broadsides on the walls, signed by the author. That has always been a sign of a bookstore with regard for literature because Shaman Drum in Ann Arbor and City Lights Books in San Fransisco and Literati in Ann Arbor display broadsides proudly. So does the bookstore at Kenyon College and the little bookstore by St Louis King of France Cathedral in New Orleans.
