Corbeau Wine Bar — Restaurant in Trussville

I really want to love this place. The concept is amazing. The aesthetic is gorgeous. Unfortunately the service was lacking. My friend and I visited on Saturday for the first time. We weren’t greeted when we arrived. We just decided to sit at the bar. Because of the concept guests should be asked if it is their first time. If it is then they need to be shown how things worked. That’s not what happened with us. We sat down and ordered a glass of wine the bartender said we only make cocktails right here, you will have to get your own wine. We had to ask her to explain that to us. She gets us a wine card and walks away. We had to get her attention again and ask her if she could show us what we were supposed to do. Again, great concept. I love the wine wall but if you’ve never been it does require some guidance. We also ordered a charcuterie board. Maybe it was an off night because it looked nothing like the pictures on these reviews. It was awful and we didn’t finish it. The servers act like they don’t want to be there and it seems they go out of their way to not make eye contact with you. There were a couple of ladies seated down from us that had a very similar experience. I really want this place to survive. Trussville needs it. It’s a beautiful wine bar but they won’t make it very long with the service they are providing. We did not encounter one friendly employee while we were there. Food and atmosphere were great. We did the self serve wine bar which was very fun. However, when it came time for checks, the waitress mixed up two peoples cards and then in an attempt to split their self-serve fees between the two as a solution, somehow split it across 3 checks. Then after ‘correcting’ this issue, the next receipt I was brought did not show the actual itemized list, just the transaction, the amount was more then it should have been even factoring in gratuity and taxes but considering it took the waitress 20 minutes the first time around to ‘resolve’ the first issue, it was not worth our time to go have her redo it again. How do you expect to offer people a premium experience with incompetent servers that don’t even know how to check people out properly? On top of that they have a ‘large party’ automatic 20% tip for groups of 5+. As a previous server, I understand doing that on actual big groups. However 5 people is a pretty normal sized group and very manageable as a server, especially when it’s mostly only ordering a few drinks because the rest is self serve. Overall a great concept but poor execution, if I’m going to be wrongfully charged for that much money again then I’m just going to buy multiple bottles of wine to drink with friends at home instead.
