For a small restaurant, I dare say this is the BEST sushi in the Birmingham metro area and I have eaten at almost all of them. Their Thai is by far one of the best you'll find in the metro, rivaling only one other, that's also a small (family owned) restaurant.
The service is great and friendly when you eat there, but it is a small place so not a lot of seating. The sushi, including the Super Crunch that has tempura in it, holds up the best for take out and delivery, so it's not even close to soggy or stale tasting when you start eating it at home (or wherever else you take it or have it delivered to). I cant say this about the other restaurants, even eating at them.
The menu isn't as large as some, but what they have is worth trying. Of the Thai, I don't think you can go wrong here. Their curries are so yummy, that the only way I can describe it is, it's like GRAVY, but isn't. You know how the best part of a meal can be the gravy? Well the curries have this beautiful thickness, with an amazingly complex flavor, but that just meldes together to dance on your tongue. My only recommendation with these is to get an extra rice. Their rice, I know what you're thinking... what's so special about white rice, but theirs is perfect and is the best compliment to the curries, but I just don't feel like the amount I get with my curry is enough to soak up all that delicious goodness.
This is a must...
Read moreA week ago I was near Trussville for an appointment just before lunchtime, so I looked at the Google Maps app and saw thatThai Basil and Sushi had lots of good reviews with a mention of Namsod on at least one review. I had never had it, but the description sure made it sound good! It's definitely a small place, but I managed to get the last table available. I'm definitely not good with spicy food, so when I saw the two chili peppers next to Namsod on the menu, I was a bit hesitant, but I asked my helpful server and she assured me that the heat could be toned down considerably. Everything about it was wonderful! Thank-you reviewer, Neysa Decha. It was like a salad with beautifully fluffy white rice on the side. The sauce was amazing, with just the perfect amount of heat for me. I'm normally not thrilled with raw onions, but these were very finely cut and added to the dish without being too noticeable. I also tried the Thai Tea (Google Maps reviewer, SassyJay's suggestion), which I would have forgotten to do if the server hadn't asked what I wanted to drink. It was also delicious. Maybe next time I'll check out...
Read moreFood was lackluster, service was surly. Stopped in because we were in the area and a friend had mentioned this place. Ordered two appetizers and two entrées, so we had a good sampling of the offerings. If you were hoping to find a hidden gem, this is not it. Basil rolls were large, but mostly rice, and pretty tasteless. Steamed potstickers were small, bland, and watery. I’ve had better from the supermarket. The dipping sauce was tasty, but also watery. The spicy beef salad (one of my favorite Thai dishes) was pretty tasty, but not very spicy for the 3-pepper rating. I ordered the mixed vegetable dish and asked for it spicy. It was a nice assortment of stir-fried veggies, but no spice at all, and was basically Chinese food in a brown broth. I couldn’t discern anything Thai about it. The server was not friendly or pleasant. Overall, it felt like one step above a fast-food experience, but for $60. I’m surprised at the high ratings, but I guess there’s not much else in the area If you live in the area, give it a try. I definitely would not go out of my way to...
