
I ordered my Thanksgiving meal. I, in an effort to give everybody a break this holiday season, ordered my Thanksgiving meal from CCG this year. I was hosting this year and had my family in town and just wanted everyone to enjoy the holiday and relax and not have to spend the day in the kitchen. I placed my order well in advance to ensure all was set.(think 2-3 months early)
To say I was disappointed is being overly kind in my description. First I received a call a week prior, going over my entire order and at that time I received a pick-up time of 5pm on Wed (Nov. 27). I arrived on time, and it was very disorganized and chaotic the entire time. I finally got my order at 6pm, after different people asked me about my order, what I got, even though they had the paper with my order in hand. But it was a busy time and I understood and just waited my turn. Next, upon getting my order home, I surveyed my order. It was entirely too chaotic at the restaurant to try and pull all my items out of the box and look into each pan. Upon looking through I noticed I had a pan of sweet potato casserole. When the young lady called me the week earlier we went over this several times, and my initial order was the same. I told at both times I only wanted regular sweet potatoes and not NUTS (I specified this, and she repeated it). I get home to a sweet potato casserole with NUTS all over. This was a no go. The next item that was very disappointing was the peach cobbler. It literally was a pan of peach juice with a thick layer of uncooked crust on the top. There were about 10 peaches total in the whole pan. This, unfortunately, prompted my mother to try and doctor on it, which is what I absolutely was trying to avoid. It was doubly difficult because we had to wait until early Thanksgiving morning and go to the only store open with limited items in a mad rush. Not really an ideal way to spend the holiday and completely cancelled the relaxing intention of it. The next item was the dressing. We placed it in the oven for a very considerable amount of time waiting for it to cook and bake through. It never firmed or set, it literally was just a pan of mush. There was never any consistency to it, it was just mushy. We would place it in the oven over again and it never firmed, and just looked like pudding more than any type of dressing. This once again had us on another run to the store (which was very rushed because the store closed early at 4) to which we were able to amass one box of stove top, due to shelves being very bare. The mushy dressing also had a very sweet taste. But needless to say that was once again another disappointment. However, the biggest disappointment came in what should be the main item the Turkey. Once we finally though we were through and had finally gotten to our meal. We sit down, we pray, and cut into the turkey, only to find it bloody and red. I bought a fried turkey which I thought would be cooked through already, we just put it in the oven before dinner to warm it up. But we cut into it at the table after prayer and it was blood, it was not cooked all the way through whatsoever. No one was eating raw bird, so we stopped and cut the turkey up and put it back in the oven to try and cook it all the way through. Needless to say this also delayed our entire dinner because I refused to have anyone eat raw turkey. I was excited to have my family in town and be the one to host Thanksgiving this year, but this experience truly dashed all my excitement and made this holiday beyond disheartening to say the very least. Especially with the money that was paid for this to be my experience is just dumbfounding. I am writing in hopes that you do better, so as not to ruin anyone else's holiday.

This is my spot and as you can see I write multiple reviews and updates. We love the food and usually the service is great.
Let's talk about service this morning: We came in this morning almost mid morning. The young lady with the earrings in her nose seemed like she didn't want to be there. She was very dry and we felt she was mad. Maybe because it was the morning time, but, you have to have a good attitude no matter the time of day. The woman that served us was nice.
We miss the other young lady we haven't seen her in a minute.
Food is excellent, but we didn't like the service today 04/26/2024. Came to new location this past Thursday October 10, 2024 evening and my food was great as usual. That Mac and cheese was bussing! I saw shorty with the natural big beautiful hair as always very inviting. The new staff was friendly and nice.
New location is nice you had to have been to the old location to know. Congratulations on the new location I actually sat down and ate my food in. The other location I wouldn’t have for real. Congrats again and my food especially that Mac and cheese was bussin!
Edit: I come here three to four times out the month. Shorty with the long jabs=nails needs to check her attitude. Maybe it’s me and it was 95 degrees in there. Standing with her hands on her hips. Makes it an unpleasant experience. Super busy, long lines, but food is bussing! I’ll keep the 5 star food is always bussing when I come.
Came back spoke with the manager (the vibrant, upbeat, beautiful, afro puff shorty) the other day, she assured me a retraining happened. Came back Saturday 12/16 shorty with them long nails was checking out and talking on the phone. Shorty needs to check out customers in the store first, then have someone take care of the customers on the phone. The food was delicious and the younger shorties were very nice and friendly. Come here all the time yesterday 12/1 wasn’t good though. Shorty with them long nails has a bad attitude. Shorty needs to serve with a smile or don’t serve at all. There’s a dude with colored eyes that was behaving like he was on something bro not funny. I didn’t get a welcome and usually you hear welcome to the collard green cafe, but the shorty that greets you, wasn’t there and boy could I tell. She’s more upbeat and I can tell she smiling through her mask.
I get the turkey wings all the time, they have always been on point, not this time they were burnt and dry. How do you mess up rice?Rice was overcooked come on fam, mac and cheese dry and burnt and it’s usually good and creamy. Not to mention, undercooked cornbread last week and today cornbread burnt and hard as a rock. Is this the burnt cafe?

Came in today and the teenage boy at the register didn't charge me for my pork chop dinner and tea. I come here a lot and I tried calling to speak with the GM the young lady with the afro hair to rectify the issue, but didn't get an answer. I'm a honest person. I didn't notice until I checked my receipt and saw my turkey wing dinner was only charged. I will try to contact again on tomorrow.
But as a suggestion you guys might want to consider not having them young folks on the register, they aren't charging us and they aren't speaking to "US" your customers when we walk through the door! There's no telling how many other people didn't get charged correctly.
UPDATED 07/31/2023 Spoke with the general manager and she addressed, listened to all my needs and concerns and provided me with a resolution to my below issues. The GM (young lady with the nice, beautiful afro hair) exceeded all my expectations that I did not expect from a soul food restaurant. The food is amazing and customer service exceptional! As I stated previously, I’m a frequent eater at CGC and they will continue to receive my business and hard earn money. Thank you GM for your exceptional service! Apologies I forgot your name, but you know who you are. LOL
I'm a frequent eater at the Collard Green Cafe, let me state my food is usually great, so great that it will make you wanna holla it's so good. But honey on yesterday, Sunday 07/23/2023 around 1:00PM I was not a happy customer!
One, my catfish dinner took entirely too long to come up. I mean did y'all have to go and catch the fish???? My wait time was too long!! My mac and cheese wasn't seasoned/good like the other times and that strawberry cake was straight trash dry a$$ h3ll! What happened to your sweet potato soufflé? Did y'all change the recipe? No comment on the sweet potato!
Second, the elderly lady at the register moved entirely too slow for us at checkout. Y'all need to get her some help or she doesn't need to be up there! Don't mean to sound rude, but I'm already pissed I had to wait over 30 minutes for my food and now I have to wait at the register. This is UNACCEPTABLE!
Lastly, it's HOT A$$ H3LL in there! It was hotter than normal, maybe I started noticing the heat because I had to wait at the register along with waiting on my food for a long time.
I tried calling up there to speak with the manager, no answer. Usually when I come into the establishment there's a young lady with the nice big afro curly hair who is extremely pleasant and always provides great service. I did not see her! I will speak to her the next time I come in, if I come back and let her know about this visit.
