Read moreVery Good Vegetable Fried Rice ($8.95) Without the Egg! Would definitely recommend...
After going here several times we hit our first issue that resulted into us choosing not to give them our business anymore.
We tried the Vegan General Tso’s Chik’n ($11.95 for about 12 small pieces) The Vegan Mongolian “Beef” (11.95 for about 15 small pieces) the Vegan Sesame “Chik’n” ($12.95 for about 12-14 small pieces) ALL WERE GOOD! the veggie spring rolls ($3-4 I believe) just “okay” and of course the vegetable fried rice without egg($8.95) The best hands down!
On our last visit we specified that we wanted one of the two orders of sesame Chik’n to be fried crispy with little sauce. Instead of following our order, because we’ve been ordering often and in a specific way they made them both the same (because that’s what we normally do and they memorized our orders at this point) and once they were notified about the order mishap and the fact that we wouldn’t drive 30 minutes back across town after the restaurant has closed the owner lied about replacing our food at a future visit and failed to honor it when we came to dine in. So we left and decided that was the last day they get any money or services from loyal customers.
We’ve dined in for the lunch specials (7.95 for about 5-7 pieces of vegan “meats” steamed white rice, a spring roll & egg drop soup -NOT GOOD AT ALL) The Vegan Drumsticks 4 for $7 was gross and made many to go orders spending $30 plus dollars each visit and when we do encounter our FIRST issue nothing is done about it. That in my opinion is a restaurant that doesn’t deserve your money or service. Period! Don’t get me wrong the food is great but I’d rather do business with a company that has honor and integrity over screwing you...
Read moreI have always been a fan of Guilin since they had their location on Speedway. Times change though, apparently. My pickup was little better than what I would be able to microwave from a frozen box from Walmart on my online order for pickup. This cannot be blamed on being near closing time (I avoid that, having worked restaurants myself.) The rice was fine, but all other components from the Beef and Broccoli, to the Combination were what you would expect from a frozen container. I suspect most of what is cooked here now comes from cans or is frozen; not at all like I remember when ordering from Guilin when they were on Speedway near Bookman's, when the broccoli was bright green, clearly fresh and recently steamed, and beef strips that seemed recently cooked.
Times change, I know with inflation people have to cut corners. Unfortunately, in a restaurant advertising healthy Chinese, Guilin cut too many corners recently.
I would try to cut them more slack, but their prices went up as well exhorbitantly. I came away with less than 2 pounds of reheated food for nearing $40. So inflation alone is not the cause of this failure. This is cutting corners and failing to maintain quality in Addition to raising prices. I will not likely order from here again unless it sees new management.
I note lots of positive reviews here. This is weird to me, because I don't see how the food I received is anything better than microwaved / toaster-oven frozen. It makes me wonder if they have a separate standard for after 6pm.
The egg rolls for instance were definitely not made in house. I am positive I could recreate them with a box from Walmart, if not better.
Sad if the quality goes out the window...
