Reframing the Familiar.. Tucson's original Hooters was in a rambling, low-slung joint off of the quiet end of north Wilmot above Pima. For years it kept a busy crowd of mostly blue collar fellows going in for inexpensive wings and beer, and enjoying the service (and scenery) of beautiful and personable young ladies on their team. Inexplicably that location closed and never reopened and has since been razed. About a year and a half ago a brand new Hooters was built a few miles south and east of the original at Broadway and Kolb. This shiny new location also features the chain's efforts to become more of a polished family-oriented restaurant while keeping their primary offerings and clientele. Pros: Clean, modern, sleek new building with greater interior seating at tables, booths, and expanded bar. Many large flat panel displays showing all major sports offerings. Craft beer, including some locally produced at good happy hour prices. Wings, sandwiches, and burgers remain well made and portioned. Serving staff are prompt, friendly, and efficient. Cons: even with the high internal ceilings all the hard concrete surfaces, and amplified music means that you never should expect to have a conversation about anything (including a major game) with tablemates inside. It is very loud once the place has more than 50% occupancy. Prices on all food and drinks have jumped up with aooetuzers, sides, and mains running $10-14 unless you use one of the specials or happy hour pricing which makes it reasonable once again. My husband and I have had their wings, burgers, and salads and felt they were tasty and well-proportioned. Drinks were kept filled and even though we were there for 90+ minutes we never felt rushed. Conversely an iced tea or soda is $3 and dressings such as ranch or Bleu cheese for wings or salads beyond the single you originally get will be charged to you at $2 each - even if you are there for the 'all you can eat' wing special. There were certainly more families than at the original and the covered patio seating is cool, comfortable, and much more audibly welcoming but also fills fast. We'll be coming back occasionally but will be dining before 6pm or on Wings Wednesdays and using coupons and the patio as often as...
Read moreThis one breaks my heart 💔 I'm a big fan of the UFC and been in the martial arts for well over 45 years. I've been to a lot of fights here. The last few times I've been here the experiences have not been good. One recent time I was there went to the restroom food on the table bagged up, came back from the bathroom they had throw it away and give him my table to someone else. I came in yesterday to watch the boxing match. The way I was greeted at the door was not very welcoming, but I blew it off. The host just walked me back to the farthest southeast corner near the kitchen. They stuck me here before so I was familiar. It was blazing 🥵 and the little girl who did eventually help me told me the thermostat had that corner at 87°! I returned to the hostess stand to request another table, As I was walking back I noticed she put a white man who just walked in at one of the three tables that was available up front. I told her it was too hot in the back corner can I get another table. I was ignored so I sat at one of the tables that was available. The waitress that was responsible for that area walked past me a dozen times. No greeting no standard napkin with their name, just no help for over 20 minutes. Even the people at the table next to me noticed. I'm such a regular that's a little girl who helped me the last time I was ignored. (Waited over 25 minutes for help to get over $50 worth of cake for a celebration). She came up to me and said what's going on, you seem to have this problem before of being ignored. I said it's cuz I had the audacity to not want to melt in the hottest corner of the restaurant. She attempted to help me, but the dirty looks and the bad energy I got from the other four women who were standing up front when I walked in, made me very uncomfortable with receiving food from the kitchen. This is a damn shame because not sure if I can ever return to a place that treated me that...
Read moreIt's okay to much screaming and yelling to be honest and our server forgot about us after bringing out our drinks (that tasted severely watered down btw) she spent more time flirting with the guy at the booth next to us (who was long finished and payed his tab and even had his go bag ready to leave but stayed to keep flirting with the server) than attending anyone else. That guy was even given discounts and coupons for his next visit while me and my pregnant fiance waited to order our food for over 30 min. Now let me make this clear we were not waiting on our food she never came to take our order. I wanted to leave soo bad but I recently had knee surgery and was in crutches when I came in and it was soo hard having to park way on the other side of the parking lot because there wasn't any parking close by and making my way through the dining area that was too narrow for me and my crutches to make it by without turning sideways around every table then trying to slide into a booth thats not even ground level (it's on a platform). The sad thing was my pregnant fiance had never ever been to a hooters before, this was her first time going because I spoke of how great my past experiences were (in LA) and she was disappointed aswell. Food was decent at best, Philly cheese steak sandwich was bland (no flavor) and they didn't even try to get the meat inside the bread, the wings were cold and had very hard spots that I actually chipped my tooth on one. Which surprised me considering I ordered boneless wings for a reason. Regardless if I ever go back to hooters again it will NOT be to this location and I will not refer nor allow any of my family or friends to go to...
