Lucky Wishbone — Restaurant in Tucson

Visited 2024.07.08 for lunch; had a two-piece breast combo that came to $11.52. I can’t say that this was the most satisfying Lucky Wishbone meal I’ve had over the years. The chicken was somewhat overcooked and chewy, and the breading on the skin was half missing. This was my first time at the Harrison store; I usually go to the Broadway/Swan location where the chicken is consistently amazing. Maybe I just came in on a bad day?

Anyway, the store was clean. Bathroom was clean — well yeah, ya gotta wash your hands after handling fried chicken, french fries and very buttery toast!

The two staff behind the counter with whom I interacted were very friendly and professional.

It’s a local Tucson chain in business since the early 1950s. My first memories of the Lucky Wishbone were back in the late 60s/early 70s dining in their store at 1104 S Wilmot — you can still recognize the building. Maybe it's the nostalgia, but I can't go to Tucson without stopping at Lucky Wishbone. The chicken fingers are crispy and delicious, with a unique flavor, particularly paired with the cocktail sauce. Then there's Steak fingers and shrimp, and even liver and gizzards if you're into that kind of thing. All fried to perfection and served with just about my favorite fries in the world and a piece of garlic Texas toast that has no right to be so good. I grew up on this place, so your experience may vary, but I for one love it there. They have in the past been run staffed by teenagers who couldn't care less about customer service and cleanliness, and the one I went to as a child had incidents with aggressive panhandlers frequently, but the past several years they seem to have really cleaned things up. Heard this place had some of the best fried chicken in Tucson, so had to try it out to see what the fuss was all about. We went on an evening when they were having a car show, so parking was very limited, as was the seating inside. Circled the parking lot to find a space, and pounced on a table inside as soon as someone left. That's the only reason for four stars instead of five. It's very casual dining, in that you order at the counter and they call you when it's ready. I ordered the two piece chicken breast with fries. The chicken was delicious, and the fries were nice and crispy, just the way I like them. The Texas toast was okay, but not the reason we went there. I thought it was a great value for the price.
