Recently arrived as a first time guest for lunch. Golden House Chinese is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of South Harrison Rd and East 22nd Street. Fry's is the plaza anchor. Ample nearby parking was abundantly available. The exterior was clean and I wasn't panhandled. Warmly greeted by a enthusiastic staff upon entry. I was immediately made to feel welcomed. While busy, I was seated and my drink order was taken immediately. The interior was clean, pleasant and free of any noticable issues. The menu is varied and impressive offering something for everyone including a large vegetarian selection. I ordered the egg flower soup, chicken egg rolls and beef lo mein. Upon being seated a plate of noodles arrived with a side of sweet and sour sauce, it proved tasty to nibble on. The soup arrived almost immediately with no lag time from ordering to presentation. I found my soup hot and fresh, it was extremely delicious. In record time the egg rolls arrived. I asked for hot mustard which the server delivered immediately along with a warning about it being strong. I've had hot mustard before so I knew what to expect, however theirs was rather intense and as advised it was very strong. Despite the intense sensations relentlessly attacking my sinuses, I thoroughly enjoyed the hot mustard mixed with the sweet and sour sauce and willingly subjected myself to it again and again. Without missing a beat the lo mein arrived immediately on top of egg rolls. The lo mein was delectable. It had a wonderful flavor and a nice assortment of ingredients. I do enjoy onions but found the lo mein to be excessively loaded with onions to the point that l started removing them. Some of the beef was excessively thick and less tender then other portions. l truly enjoyed the entire meal. I would have preferred greater time gaps between each plate delivery, but everything arrived hot fresh and delicious. My bill was just under $30 which l considered high, but I did enjoy myself. My server was refreshingly attentive and l never needed anything. My water was filled and refilled as needed without issue. Over all, I truly felt not just welcomed, but l also felt valued which is almost non-existent in the post pandemic world of indifference.

Read moreOriginally we decided to go here because it advertised "healthy Chinese food" so we decided to give it a try. The first time we had our daughter with us and the bill was outrageous but there isn't any itemized bill. That's unacceptable in my opinion. I want to know what we are being charged for. I inquired about the bill and we got it settled. I didn't plan on ever going back because I was not impressed. Very small portions and just nothing to tell anyone about. My husband decided tonight that we should give it another try. We love Chinese food. Saying this visit was disappointing is an understatement. I ordered water with lemon to drink (as always, I mostly only drink water) and to eat I ordered the house special of teriyaki chicken which included the egg flour soup, egg roll and white or fried rice. The egg roll is laughable to say the least. Tiny! The portions, also laughable. I wouldn't be able to serve that with a serious expression and feel good about it. My husband ordered a Pepsi to drink (definitely not Pepsi, possibly RC or perhaps something even cheaper) and to eat he ordered the walnut shrimp which came with white rice. The shrimp was extremely fishy tasting and the rice was super dry. He ate a few pieces and couldn't stomach another bite. He asked me to give it a try and I figured he was just being picky. Not the case! I had to spit it out into my napkin. It literally gagged me. We love seafood and have it often. Something was definitely wrong. When my husband left his plate untouched after the few bites, he went to pay so we could get out of there and never return. The waitress asked me if something was wrong or did I need a box? I told her the shrimp was very fishy and that we didn't need a box She did nothing and charged us normal price. Fair enough. That is what we ordered but just bad business. You definitely do not get what you pay for. Service was fast as there was only 3 other people in the place.l and it seems to be clean. However, I do not recommend. Guillians on Broadway is a much better option or even panda express. My husband is sick to his stomach. Hopefully this place puts more pride into the quality of...
Read moreAfter many of the vegan reviews recommending us to give this place a try we dined in this evening. Once we got to the restaurant to be seated we were greeted by our server, Tony. He was very pleasant and educated us on the fact that 6 months ago they found out all their vegan “Chik’n” and “shrimp” meats for the entrees contained milk as they are VEGETARIAN NOT VEGAN. I repeat NEITHER OF THESE TWO ARE VEGAN so if you consumed these today dating back 6 months you’ve been compromised as a vegan. He was very open and honest about what we could have and we were extremely grateful because we wanted to try the Vegan Sesame “Chik’n” and we would’ve gotten sick if we did tonight. The only option for us to try was from the vegetable dishes as well as the sesame vegan “beef” ($11.95) this came deep fried in gluten free flour. It wasn’t seasoned, and was very chewy, almost rubbery, and the sesame sauce didn’t wow us. It had very light flavors and it was supposed to be spicy which it wasn’t. We also tried the vegetable fried rice with no egg and we actually enjoyed that more than the entrees (Sesame Beef) . The rice was $8.50 and came with peas, carrots, little onion and 4 pieces of broccoli. We added soy sauce for extra flavoring and it was shared amongst two people but realistically one person could enjoy it alone. The Vegetable Egg Rolls aren’t Vegan, as they contain milk. The added bonus was the fact that they served beer and wine. Domestics are $3.95 and all others were $4.25. They are 12oz bottles. Tony was awesome, I can’t stress that enough. The rice and beer and the great customer service is why I gave a 3/5 but realistically we more than likely won’t try again until they have VEGAN “meat” alternatives for us to try that we’d really enjoy. The overall rate of the food itself was a 5/10. Thats on taste, portion size, flavoring and quality.
If you go, have the rice or try a vegan vegetable based dish, tofu or the shredded potatoes (recommendation by tony). The place is small & clean. More than likely more appealing for...
