This is one of the more dive-y pizza restaurants that I've visited in Tucson for quite some time. I've been meaning to try NYPD New York Pizza Department as I live nearby, so I finally did it. Overall, I came away somewhat disappointed with the experience, but the vibe and pizza of this place seems ideal for a university environment. Let's call the entire experience ... rustic. The interior. Inside the restaurant, you'll find a basic setup. Tables, chairs, high-tops in an open setting. You have to go to the counter to order the pizza. The inside is in decent condition, if not immaculately clean. The table I was sitting at was wobbly, which is a telltale sign of a dive restaurant. They really should fix that up. The staff. The staff were friendly, if a bit disorganized. They all fit behind a small counter, which is a somewhat awkward setup. The food. I ordered the Batman Bread and a 20-inch Philly Cheesesteak Pizza as I wanted something a bit different. The Batman Bread was delicious -- soft bread with cheese and jalapenos -- how can you go wrong with that, eh? The menu says there should be bacon in the dish, but there was no bacon to be found anywhere. For the pizza, the product was cooked well and looked good. Unfortunately, the flavor did not match the presentation. This was one of the greasiest pizzas I've eaten in a long time. That's probably due to the choice of cheese that they use, but just be aware of that when you order their pizzas. For drinks, they offer fountain sodas and craft beers only. So, overall, I might have enjoyed this more if I was in college back in the day, but that type of vibe isn't quite what I expected here. This place does fill a niche in the Tucson east-side pizza scene, but there are many much better pizzas in the city.

I got a slice of Sicilian (HELLO, Sicilian, yay!) to go. Forgot to tell the guy I didn’t need it heated up so about 6 minutes after ordering, I told him. It’s because I live pretty far and didn’t plan to eat it until later but he was concerned, said it may not be as crispy reheated, the crust in particular, which I actually understood and appreciated, and I liked the service he provided (young guy at the counter). Turned out the Ninja XL SmartOven did a great job reheating it, and the crust DID get crispy, the cheese to sauce ratio is just right (remember Sicilian is less sauce-heavy than regular Neapolitan and of course the thick crust), the mozzarella is spot on, the marinara is just right. And you can taste the garlic. I’d never been here before and psychologically I balked at the price for the Sicilian slice ($8.50) but actually it was quite large and I found it a great value on top of everything else. I used my pizza cutter and enjoyed two rounds of this beauty. The inside is not bad at all, it’s pleasant with NY posters. I plan to return when anywhere near this area.

Went with a friend on a saturday evening and the place was empty. He ordered a calzone, which was amazing. I ordered a 16 in cheesesteak pizza so I could take some home and tipped $5. Thirty minutes later my friend is finished and I'm still waiting. I asked an employee what was taking so long and he lied, telling me the cheesesteak takes the longest. Ten minutes later my buddy is ready to leave and I approach the counter to be informed that my pizza had been given to another customer, who had taken it home and was bringing it back! They truly intended to give me a pizza that had been to someone's house and back!!! Wow. I asked for a refund and asked why they didn't tell me the truth to begin with? Excuses and zero accountability. I asked for a refund and was told it would take up to 24 hours. I asked for my tip back and was then informed they were only refunding the pizza and not the drink. Update: I did receive a refund minus the fountain soda. Will never recommend or return due to extremely poor and potentially dangerous "customer service." 👎

Nothing we ordered on our visit would i classify as new york style food. The reg. pizza is not great. The sauce is bland and flavorless. The cheese is sad. It reminds me of the pizza we got on fridays in elementary school. Exact same cheese. Crust was too thick for what should be. Pizza didn't fold. Not ny -ish in the slightest. I scored the reg slice a 3 out of 10. Tried a Sicilian slice next. It had an ungodly amount of sauce on it. But the sauce was bland as well. Like super bland. No seasoning, no olive oil just crushed tomatoes. Crust was better than the reg pizza but was too crispy on the bottom. Like it was reheated. Then there is that same cheese again. Score 3 out of 10.

Then tried the meatball parm hero. This too was a disappointment as they felt the need to dump parmesan cheese all over the hero. Never have i ever ordered a parm hero and it came covered in parmesan cheese . Yuck. I personally hate parmesan cheese. And having so much of it on my hero ruined it for me. I dont know what they were thinking. If i wanted it i could have put it on myself, why put it there in the first place and so so much of it. SMH. On the plus side the hero bread, meatball and sausage from what i could taste, was ok. Not great, just ok. Score 4 out of 10. If that hero didn't have a ton of parmesan cheese poured on it, it might be a 7 or 8 . Such a shame.

I took off a star for the lousy sauce, another for the thick hard unfoldable crust. The third for the elementary school reminiscent cheese. The fourth for dumping parmesan cheese on my hero. I did give them an extra star for using mozzarella on their heros and not provolone like so many others use. So theres that.

Dining area is bare minimum. Uncomfortable, stackable chairs, wobbly tables, thin cheap napkins and all. Decor is standard bar type atmosphere. They could be serving Chinese food or fried chicken and it would still be appropriate. What im trying to say is the restaurant itself didnt come across as a pizzeria. Aside for the name outside.

Nothing i ate would i ever want to eat again so i won't be back. I also take offense at calling this ny style. It is not. Lies. Open this restaurant in ny and it would be closed in a week. But because this is tucson and people dont know any better its acceptable. You can do better. If you want the closest to ny pizza in tucson my top pick is arizona pizza co. Next up is Argenziano's. This place wouldn't make my top ten...

I have been to this store 3 or 4 times. The food has been delicious, however last night I went to order take out. I made a comment on whether or not the prices on line were the same as the store? The cashier responded probably not, but we do give a military discount of 10%. I already knew that, but said "cool". After I ordered everything, I calculated the bill to be $45 plus tax minus the discount. It came out to $57. I asked if the military had been applied. She was obviously getting frustrated because the computer was freezing up. She told me that it had been. When I questioned it, I was told that it was built in. I went and sat down. I then calculated the receipt, and to no surprise there was no discount. I went and told them about the discrepancy. They said they'd look into it. When they finally brought me my order, the same cashier asked me if I'd like a brownie or a cookie. This was their way of making up for not giving me the discount. I went out to the car, looked through everything and noticed I was missing a ranch for the wings. They don't offer ranch with wings, so you have to pay extra. I went back in and asked for the ranch that I had already purchased. When I got home, we found that the small pizza which was supposed to have light sauce instead had heavy sauce and my Buffalo wings had ni sauce. I called the store and was asked to come back so they could fix it. Upon returning, their attitudes and tones of voice were professionally rude. After waiting about 15 minutes to have the order replaced, they brought it out and "Sorry for the inconvenience". That was it. After speaking with the owner the following day, and getting his perspective on what happened, by saying they could have been nicer, but they followed policy. We don't give out free or discounted stuff if mistakes are made. It's not good business. Basically what he said to me, was if we inconvenience you with our mistake, OH well, it happens! I for one will not return again. There are a lot more pizza joints...

If I could leave less than a one star I would. Just got off the phone with the owner. I had an issue with my gluten free pizza not being gluten free and I got very sick. I have celiac disease. No one reached out to me for 2 weeks after putting in a complaint for a refund. Finally I called after not hearing anything back and I asked if they could remake since it's seemed to be an issue for a refund. The lady who I spoke with said she was reaching out to the manager or owner and never gave me a call back and left. I called an hour later to then speak with a new employee. She gave me the owners number. I called him. He literally told me it's not his problem that the pizza wasn't labeled gluten free. He said not a lot of people have gluten allergies so it doesn't really matter. He completely denied my accusation against it not being gluten free. He said "if your scared about getting gluten free pizza then don't order it." WHAT!? This place is a joke! 2 weeks ago when I ordered the pizza the lady handed them to me and said "we didn't label them but you'll be able to tell by the crust looking crispier." This place is all about money. They don't care about you. Stay as far away as possible. The owner is extremely manipulative. For the record he offered to make me a new one but his tone and mockery made me decline the offer. Just as a cherry on top the rest of the order was partly messed up. I've been visiting here for a few months and never had an issue. I'm completely disgusted. He treated my celiac disease as a laughing matter, and tried to blame me for it. He took no responsibility. Anytime I would try and talk he interrupted me by denying any claim I would make. Yikes. I’ve also seen some other pretty insane reviews. This place is a joke and a mess. Don’t know what the owner was on when he started up this business but this is more like New York...
