We met up with old friends for dinner here. They used to live in Tucson years ago and really wanted to relive the experience of Pinnacle Peaks better days from long ago. Despite my urging that we go elsewhere, they were extremely nostalgic and rather insistent on revisiting Pinnacle Peak. Once upon a time you were considered lucky just to find any available parking no matter the distance involved. This visit we practically parked right up front in the near empty lot. Our friends enquired if the place was even open, l told them it just wasn't worth visiting anymore and that's why the parking lot was a ghost town. I assured them that the bulk of the parked cars probably belonged to the staff. Unlike the glory days of old, we walked right in and we're seated without any wait. The dining room wasn't remotely occupied, it basically was an interior ghost town. Despite our table being passed numerous times by several members of the staff, we somehow waited for several minutes before someone finally took pity upon us and offered to take our drink orders. In short order our waters were empty and we were once again ignored as staffed repeatedly passed by indifferent to our needs. With refreshed waters and Margaritas now ordered, we placed our food orders. Soon some flavorless beans arrived along with some unimpressive stale plain old bread. In what seemed an impressive short lag time, the steaks arrived at warp speed. In all fairness the steaks were magnificent, cooked to absolute perfection. The steaks made up for the shortfalls of the mediocre salad, bland beans and stale flavorless bread. But our overall dining experience simply sucked. People vote with their feet and there's an obvious problem here that is forcing away. As our friends pointed out this used to be crowded and was standing room only, now it might as well be a semi private dining room in a ghost town. The bar staff still produces a full flavored Margarita. Eating is a necessity, dining out is a luxury treat. From the moment we arrived, we never really ever felt valued as "guest" by an indifferent staff. Dining out at a sit down establishment isn't about stuffing your face. It's about delightful ambience, impeccable service and delectable food that I can't make at home. Pinnacle Peak still offers fantastic ambience but it ends right there, falling well short of hitting the trifecta of reasonable expectations. Maybe next time our friends return to town, hopefully we can avoid repeat disappointment and go to the TTT in hopes of a better experience. Thanks for the...
Read moreHadn't been here in years. Thought we'd give it a try. Should have stayed home. Got the kiddo a kids steak and corn on the cob. Steak overcooked. Corn had come in contact with BBQ sauce from someone else's food so it wasn't appetizing. Salads were ok. Never did I think I'd say there was too much dressing on salad but it was drenched. Good, but drenched. The bread they brought was hard as they must have set the baskets up long before it opened. We were three of the first 8 people seated when they opened. Ordered chicken and t bone for adults. Steak was so tough you couldn't even cut it. They cooked another it was the same. Said we should pick another cut because the cook said the t-bone cuts the got in just weren't good. Why are you serving them if you know you got bad cuts? And for $40 at that. We picked a different cut and it was ok. Ate the baked potato straight out of the foil while waiting to get steak so it didn't get cold. Bbq chicken, flavorless beyond the sauce on top. They must be using tiny chickens as this half was really small. Breast of it so dry. Inedible. Didn't say anything, after the steak debacle didn't want to be those people. Beans were good as always. Peach cobbler. Gross!!!!! The whole thing was MUSH! it was just awful Our waiter was kind and patient and did his best. We knew none of our bad food was his fault. Would I go back? NO. Not for the $80.00 I spent. We didn't even get to eat together or have anything enjoyable to eat. Trail Dust Town is fun for the kids but nothing is free. If you go, be a rule breaker and wear a tie. Don't order a t-bone or half Chicken. Pit beef is probably safe. Lol have fun and enjoy the whole...
Read moreIt was our first time here. First and foremost I'll say, the steak carried the entire meal! It was phenomenal!!! The sides, meh. Except the apple cobbler. It was surprisingly Excellent! Which is rare for a restaurant. Honestly, I did not like the cowboy beans at all. But they've been the same for 60+ years. So there is that. Kinda hard to argue, but that's my opinion. The salad was pretty basic, and just fine. The baked potato was okay, no complaints. I didn't care for the bread. Thick white bread. Baked off site, daily, and for them specifically. I just prefer Texas toast, rolls, cornbread, biscuits, something. Anything. Just not plain bread. But I'm southern. We don't do plain bread. Okay, service. It was exceptional. Dakota was our server and he was amazing. A well oiled machine. Effortless, he made it look so easy! And it isnt. Its hard work. He had our table, a table of three, a table of four, and a large group of about ten. He was perfect. Right there at the perfect time. Every time. He has been there 20 years! One of the character actors would stroll through the restaurant and the bar (where we went after dinner) and speak with people. He seemed very authentic and was an interesting guy. He's been there 27 years. He told us one of the cooks has been there longer than that! (maybe why the steak was beyond amazing). Must be a good place to work too! We also met a really nice couple from Mexico. They visit pretty often, and have for many years. They spoke very highly of the place. I can't recommend it enough. The magic shop is the only other thing we did in town (just us two big kids, no little ones). Definitely check it out....
