Scotty Freel and the Flying Diamonds Too Loud! Tonight we went on our usual Thursday night of dancing and listening to music at the Maverick. Playing most Thursdays now, is Scotty Freel and the Flying Diamonds. A very good band! The loudness level at the beginning of the night was good but as happens in most bars, the volume keeps increasing and increasing such that as we danced near the hanging speakers the sound was so loud we couldn't stand it. It was mainly the bass that was overwhelming and distorting the bands sound. I asked the sound engineer if she could turn it down and she said she had no control. I told the waitress we were checking out because of the sound. I have hearing loss and tinnitus already and this just makes it worse. There is documented evidence that bars normally crank up the volume so people won't be able to talk to each other and when they can't talk, they buy more drinks. As I was leaving I told the general manager Derrick why we were leaving and he said they keep the decibels under the legal limit and it's a bar and a band playing music. Perhaps 40% of the crowd at the Maverick is people over 60 years old these days and I know they do not appreciate loud music. It doesn't need to be that loud to enjoy it. I told him I'm a good customer that comes regularly, buys drinks, buys food and tips well. They are going to lose good customers like myself if they don't adjust to their paying customers. Scotty Freel band: you are a good band, you don't need to have the sound cranked up that loud to sound good and the bass is too loud and distorting your sound. I'll be spending my money elsewhere unless the Maverick keeps the volume at a reasonable level and I warn future customers that hearing loss is a real thing and be wary of this venue...
Read moreSo we were visiting from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and decided to try and come out dancing for an evening. I found two different places to go and this one had better reviews so we tried it. For starters the bar was nice and our waitress was awesome! The band that played was also very good. Everyone here seemed to be having a good time. The negatives to our visit are as follows: 1. It stormed tonight yet they kept the front doors wide open in July and it was sweltering inside, especially if you were dancing. 2. This dance floor is kinda small. Much smaller than what we are used to dancing on. 3. They had some sort of benefit going on to save horses (that may have accounted for the crowded conditions) However, I spoke to another couple and they say it's normally busy on Thursdays and packed on Friday and Saturday. Glad we came on Thursday, if this was a"slower" night. 4. This is probably the most important. If you are used to being able to dance around a dance floor in line of dance with people slot dancing in the middle (as it should be) they do NOT do that here. There is no line of dance, everyone just kinda dances in place all over the dance floor. Then you have the crazy few who spin their partner all over with no regard to who is around, elbows flying everywhere! (To be fair you will run into this one at almost any dance hall). As the evening got a little later and it thinned out a bit, it was better. I think there is just a completely different style of dance between Texas and Arizona. If y'all come visit us in Dallas/Fort Worth you will need to stay to the middle of the dance floor, leaving the outside lane open for those who don't two step in place. If we are in the area again, I'm not sure if we would come back, we might, or we might try the...
Read moreSecurity allowed a girl to stay even though they knew "she's a fighter" - they told me because she just bought a VIP table they would stand by me and my friends to protect us. She had already assaulted me in the bathroom, which I told security about. I went to close my tab and Security convinced me to stay, promising they would keep me safe. A short while later I was coward punched - and they removed her from the club without calling the police.
I suffered a fractured orbital floor, a deviated septum, and now require laser eye surgery to prevent a detachment in my retina.
The Security knew she had a reputation, they promised to keep me safe and convinced me to stay. She had already assaulted me.
I really wish they hadn't convinced me to stay, I wish they had removed her from the club. I wish they called the police on her.
It was only my second visit to the maverick. Very disappointed 😞 in Security. The security even wound up messaging my ex, who had previously dated the female who hit me. Overall just unprofessional - failed the one job they had to do, after convincing me I would be safe and should continue to keep my tab open. Part of me thinks it was all a...
