Oahu Hawaiian BBQ — Restaurant in Tucson

Not Authentic. Disclaimer, I just got back from 10 days in Oahu for the first time. The bar is set extremely high after that experience. This food was OK. Very corporate kitchen-like texture and taste. The Mac is generic and highly processed. The barbecue chicken taste exactly like panda express which had me questioning whether or not they stole the recipe. And the shredded pork was dry and tasted like an artificial smoke additive was used as the primary flavor. The cabbage also taste exactly like panda express.

Overall, the food was satisfactory. But I would not spend my money there again. I was attracted to the name, Oahu Hawaiian BBQ. The staff was friendly, but not knowledgeable about the product or how it relates to authentic Oahu cuisine. My food was ready in about three minutes.

I ordered through door dash last week: mini combo with chicken Katsu and a mini combo with a spicy fire chicken. I had asked for a side of spicy sauce. They actually sent me more than enough and I was so grateful. I went in in person three days later, and I had the worst experience. I ordered the same two meals and requested extra sauce, The guy at the counter refused to give me a side of the spicy sauce, even after I offered to pay. I told him I had ordered it before and I had extra sauce and he responded with: “It must have been the owner that gave it to you” So I had to change my order since he couldn’t accommodate a simple side of the sauce. he rolled his eyes when I changed my order and was very rude. Not sure I will come back to this place simply because of the bad customer...

A friend and I got a little of everything so we could trade. Crab rangoon: lots of filling but it was oddly sweet; not bad, just not what I expected. Mac salad very onion-y tasting but can't see any onion. Otherwise bland. Will add at least celery to my leftovers. It was ok. Pulled pork very good, not greasy like some places. Chicken katsu (?), good, sauce meh. Better to use teriyaki. BBQ chicken pretty good, a tiny bit dry on some pieces. Beef--teryiyaki? BBQ? Not sure. Tough, fatty and dry. Most disappointing of the whole table. Rice was very good. (Don't laugh. I've been to places that screwed up steamed rice.)

Willing to go back and try again. Huge portions, plenty...
