My wife, daughter, and I went to this outback on Veterans' Day. My wife and I are veterans. I am a disabled combat veteran. I don't like going out on Veteran's Day, and haven't in several years. I remember why now.
We didn't go to outback for any free items and spent over $250 on our meal. I comment on this because I want to alleviate the potential perspective that my disappointment comes from the restaurant not providing veteran's something for free. I respect, support, and appreciate any company that donates to anyone, especially veterans, but I do not expect any handouts or feel due any special consideration at a for profit business.
On that subject though, we were charged for the items that outback committed to donating to veteran's on Veteran's Day. I paid for the items, because I will not bicker over $20 worth of complimentary items on such a solemn and revered day. I can barely go out of the house on Veteran's Day and what I honor on that day would be disrespected by such a petty dispute. I paid and didn't correct the mistake because at the time the issue seemed nominal, but the lack of concern for WHY the items were offered and not honored has bothered me for the last few hours.
I don't regret paying or not reminding the server of our military status, and I don't want a refund or gift card from outback. I do though, regret going to outback because the restaurant did not have the respect for the meaning of the day enough to ensure their employees remained gracious and honor the worthless, cheap, unhealthy fried onion they offered to show appreciation for military service.
In fact, this week, I'm going to donate 50 onions to the University of Arizona food pantry just to make myself feel better about paying $12 for an over salted, over advertised onion that I wouldn't have ordered, eaten, or cared about.
The food was probably what people expect. It was decent. My daughter loved the dessert. The lobster was what you could expect for the price. The service is what I would consider good for a chain restaurant, but I'm disappointed. Outback, please take more care in helping your employees understand the causes you claim to support.
I went out to eat to be with my family. I did not go to 'celebrate' my own Veteran's Day. It is a day to remember and honor the fallen, the current and former military members, and their families and loved ones. I don't care about the onion, or the $12. I'm just bothered that outback not living up to their offer has taken my attention and time away from what the day really means.
All in all, I got to see my wife and daughter smile, laugh, and enjoy having too much food in a safe, welcoming environment. That's my Veteran's Day gift.
I'm sure the chain donated thousands of onions for Veteran's Day, and that's good of them. Most places don't do anything for Veteran's Day anymore. If anyone read this, please try to remember that Veteran's Day means something to us, and we're worth more than a...
Read moreStopped by for lunch after a morning off-site meeting. I was surprised that they opened at 11am because I swear, I came once before and it didn't open until the afternoon (must've been quite some time ago). Anyway, although it was just 10 minutes after 11am, there were plenty of people seated and other at the bar.
The hostess promptly greeted me and welcomed me in, she asked if I was waiting for anyone or dining alone. She sat me in the first booth, near the door while my co-worker got there. Although, with some reluctance we stayed seated in the first booth (table #69 per the handy electronic touch screen thing at the edge of the table). Anyway, my reluctance stemmed from it being so chilly yesterday I was worried that there may be a draft from the main door opening and closing but it was all good.
Within the first 7 minutes, we were greeted by our waitress who I would have to rate a 5 on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the highest. She looked very tired, maybe she had a long night, and she appeared to be the only waitress for the area where we were sitting, as a result her attitude was less than pleasant. I mean, she was by no means rude but she wasn't too nice either. She had a very nonchalant attitude and we almost felt rushed in placing our order. After her 2nd time, coming back we finally decided and placed our order. My co-worker ordered a baked sweet potato, plain and dry with a side of steamed broccoli. I ordered a 6 oz medium well steak with two sides of steamed broccoli. Together our order was just over $20. During our meal, the manager stopped by to introduce himself as he had to the other tables. He was very kind and seemed genuine, we appreciated that.
It was definitely a cheap meal for us both with okay service. Will I be back, sure if I'm...
Read moreWe went to celebrate my birthday and for my friends wedding! (August 3rd at 9:30pm) We were coming from Phoenix so we didn’t make a reservation as we weren’t sure what time we’d get there and unfortunately by the time we did it was 30 minutes before close so we were gonna order an appetizer and be fast then leave. The hostess was nice however when we were seated the server met us with nothing but attitude disrespect and unkindness. We were sat right by the kitchen and they spoke about us loud enough that we could hear her as well as the workers in the back complaining that we were there 30 minutes before close and just mocking us. When she came back with our waters i just let told her we were going to leave because we don’t want to inconvenience them with having to actually do their jobs for 30 more minutes. We left- but I wanted to leave this review NOT to say that they represent the whole business and location and not to say don’t go there but rather in the hopes that they see this and realize that if you are going to apply for a position that includes customer service, potentially working on their people-skills and if that’s too hard, at least being quieter when smack talking the paying customers. Kindness is free and you never know what someone else is going through- it was really disappointing and unnecessary and the only reason we left is because I didn’t want to feel like garbage on my birthday after a pretty rough month. I hope they see this and learn to be a little more patient- I’ve worked in food service for years and know it can be frustrating at times but at the end of the day it’s what you’re getting paid to...
