If I had to sum up my experience in one word, it would be disappointed
Tania’s has always been one of my favorite places. As someone who doesn’t eat meat often, I’ve loved having so many vegetarian options that are generous, delicious, and worth the price. Sadly, this visit was nothing like my past experiences. I don’t know what’s going on with ownership or management, but something has definitely changed—and not for the better.
I came with my family, four of us in total. Right away, the first impression wasn’t welcoming. The young woman working the front counter seemed disengaged, almost like she didn't want to be there. She wasn't friendly, didn’t smile, and certainly didn't give off the warm atmosphere I've come to expect here.
When I ordered, I asked for vegan queso on the side and was told they didn’t have any. My boyfriend’s burrito was also supposed to have queso in it, but she didn’t mention they were out when he ordered. He only found out when his burrito arrived without it, and when he asked, she told him they were out.
She also didn’t give us an itemized receipt, so I couldn’t even verify what was entered for the cook to make.
-Our Orders My son and daughter each ordered a breakfast plate. They enjoyed their food, but my son pointed out that for the cost, his plate had far less food than my boyfriend’s burrito, even though many of the ingredients were the same, and he was still hungry after finishing it.
My boyfriend ordered the XL Carne Asada & everything, it was enormous, so full he had to eat it with a knife and fork. It was filling up the entire to go box that it came in!
I ordered the Large Coliflor & everything, which is where everything fell apart.
The “& everything” option costs $3 more because it’s supposed to come with extra toppings and ingredients.
-My Burrito Mine was supposed to be a large burrito, but it was smaller than the regular burritos I used to get here years ago. It collapsed in on itself when I picked it up, and while it did have other vegetables, the cabbage, one of the main fillings, was barely there, just a few pieces sprinkled in instead of a proper amount.
I went to the counter to ask for more cabbage. Then, after checking the menu, I realized it was missing cooked carrots too, so I had to go back again. Once those were added, the burrito was now filled out a little more and tasted good, but later I realized it was still missing pico de gallo.
By the end, I basically had to build my own burrito just to make it close to what I ordered. This is a vegetarian burrito, vegetables are far cheaper than meat, so there’s no excuse for skimping on them.
It makes me wonder how often this happens with take-out orders or catering from here, where customers don’t realize ingredients are missing until it’s too late to fix them.
I’ve been eating at Tania’s for years and have always loved their vegetarian and vegan menu. But after seeing other recent reviews and now having my own disappointing experience, I won’t be coming back. I work hard for my money and expect to get what I ordered, not be shorted on ingredients and have to fix my own meal.
Tania’s, please figure out what’s going on and fix it quickly. This is not the same Tania’s I...
Read moreI feel compelled to finally write a review for Tanias 33 even though there are already over 1100 reviews and it feels like I am just screaming into the void.
Having lived on the west side of Tucson for almost three years, and having eaten at Tanias probably around 90 times in total, I can say definitively that their food is very good.
HOWEVER, their ability to accurately put together an order is lacking tremendously. I would estimate that there is something wrong with one out of every three orders I place for carryout. Either I receive the completely wrong burrito, or the toppings are different, or the tortillas are wrong on a plate, or there is cheese on the beans when I asked for none, or there is bacon in a vegan burrito, the list goes on and on.
On my last order from Tanias, the one that motivated me to write this review, they completely forgot multiple items in a large order (two entrees out of seven), and there were a few specifics given about some items that were not followed. IE no lettuce on this, no cheese on that.
Also, as is typical with many one of a kind family restaurants, customer service is not the best. There is one female employee in particular who works there who's name I do not know, but she is always...off putting. Not that I expect to be treated like a king anywhere I go, because I am far from that, but this particular employee does very little to make someone feel welcomed, comfortable, or happy with their experience. She makes you feel as if being a customer is a nuisance for her and therefore the restaurant.
I love Tanias and I will continue eating there, I do not want them to go out of business and this review is not an attempt to openly slander or abuse anyone who works there, or the owners. That being said, please put some system in place to verify that customers are getting everything they ordered, and how they...
Read moreI've been loyal. 20 years ago, they had the best burritos in town. Not so anymore. Recently, I walked in and specifically asked the nice lady at the counter if they had "cripy" tacos, not the soft tortilla type. The lady assured me with a confident "Of course!" response. So, of course I expected an authentic crispy tortilla on my tacos. Not the case. They were worse than Taco Bell's. These shells were straight from the Dollar Tree from up the street. Fake shells and lame, disintegrating tacos. Jack in the Box has better tacos. I was hoping for authentic, not processed crap. Lame! Los Betos, around the corner even uses REAL tortillas for their crispy tacos. Those are great, btw. Not this place. Then today, months after that laughable experience, I made the mistake of giving them another try. I ordered two regular breakfast burritos with everything, and a half-gallon of red menudo. Evidently, they know very little about menudo Colorado. First, it wasn't even red, it was a dark brown (lol). Second, the tripe smelled dirty and "unclean". Unfortunately, I actually tried to eat it. A few bites and "Nope". I threw it out. Now, let's talk about the breakfast burritos. We ordered them "w/everything". The menu states they have potatoes but I guess they're too busy to bother with cutting any real potatoes so they only added tater-tots into their flimsy tortilla. So much for authenticity. The burritos were way overpriced for their size, too. Around the corner, you can get twice the burrito for half the price. Two lame burritos, two sodas, and a half-gallon of the worst menudo I've ever eaten came to $49.50. At least the soda was good. Years ago, I used to brag about their burritos, now I'll...
