Today we stopped by Twisted Indian for a midafternoon lunch. If you're reading this, you likely already know the restaurant is located inside a gas station.
For the type of location I rated it 4 stars for atmosphere. There's a roped off section with about 7 tables and chairs inside the gas station. It was a clean, comfortable, friendly and casual dining experience. Like a fast food type experience with a walk up counter. If noise bothers you, this isn't a quiet place because people are frequently going in and out the gas station door which makes the standard "dinging" sound when the door is opened.
The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. The food came out fast and was hot and fresh.
We ordered: One order of vegetable samosas (this gave us 2 samosas), one chicken tikka masala, one butter chicken, 2 garlic naan and 2 fountain sodas that were self-service.
The samosas came out first and included tamarind sauce and green chutney. The samosas were tender, flaky and delicious. The tamarind chutney was more sour than sweet. Not a bad thing. I really liked it. The green chutney was as I expected and mild, not hot. We did ask for our food to be mild.
Both the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were flavorful with tender, juicy chunks of chicken thigh meat and plenty of sauce for dipping with the naan. They each also came with a generous serving of rice. I liked the chicken tikka masala the best and my daughter liked the butter chicken the best. Just personal preference.
The garlic naan was beautiful with a strong buttery garlic flavor. It was very large and more on the thin side than thick and fluffy. We probably could have split one naan between the two of us but were happy we had some to take home.
We also brought home some of the other food and I'm looking forward to eating those leftovers.
We'll definitely be back and will try some of their other dishes. Maybe the chicken biryani next time. I'll also get more of their...
Read moreBland and while the owner might not agree (see comment below) I can assure him that this time around it very much was! The only flavors were cream and ghee unlike other people who have left higher stars I have other reviews (so you know I'm real) where you can see I prefer to leave positive reviews. I’ve had great experiences eating Indian food in gas stations along the 10 freeway, so when I saw this one I hadn’t tried with such great reviews I was excited to try it out. We saw the menu offered chicken tikka masala which was exciting. We ended up ordering it with a mango lassi and 2 garlic naans. The lassi was great and creamy. Unfortunately the chicken tikka masala which we ordered spicy was very bland not only lacking salt but also lacking other Indian spices which give it distinct flavor. It was as though we were eating a lightly spicy Alfredo sauce with unseasoned chicken in it and a lot of oil. The prominent flavor was oily cream. The naan good. The rice was cooked well and tasted good but the fact the main dish was inedible was so disappointing. Based on the previous good reviews I can only assume the person who usually cooks was not in that day. If you actually authentic like Indian food, this is not the place for you. For $17 for that main dish, I expected much...
Read moreI was driving from White sands to Saguaro NP, and on my way I ordered food for take out from this Indian restaurant. GPS took me to a gas station and I was looking for the restaurant but finally found it inside the convenience store. You can see the restaurant sign on the top. I almost reached on their closing time but they waited for me, very friendly and welcoming staff. Well, this is a hidden gem inside a Chevron gas station, I ordered Butter Chicken, Tawa roti and samosas, everything was so authentic and finger licking decent and more than expected. Their one roti is equivalent to almost 3 homemade roti, Rotis were very soft, coated with ghee and made with pure wheat flour(no all purpose flour mixed), Butter chicken was also made with proper Punjabi style with authentic spices with perfect flavor and the highlight was Samosa, for me it was one of the best samosas I had in US, while eating samosa I didn’t even need any chutney. I highly recommend this restaurant for the authentic North Indian cuisine and I will definitely try their food when I come back to...
