Why haven’t I been back?
It was 10 years ago that I last dined in Chuy’s. My wife and I had just moved back to Tulsa. Then, I asked a friend that had lived in San Antonio, where was the best TexMex in Tulsa? He recommended Chuy’s. I remember, we dined at Chuy’s on a Sunday. The place was a mad house. The parking lot packed. Inside every table was full and the noise was deafening. Uncontrolled kids were running in all directions screaming and playing, snottin’ sneezin’ and making a mess of the salsa bar. The food was good. TexMex style and flavors that I remembered from living in Texas. Delicious, but it was not worth the hassle dealing with the parking and crowded restaurant. Haven’t been back since.
Chuy’s recently advertised a new (new to me) green chili enchilada and relleno plate. The picture of the crispy deep fried relleno hooked me. Rellenos prepared like that are uncommon. When I see ‘em, I’m on ‘em, like a fat boy on an ice cream cone. Add green chili, I’m in the car leaving. Please don’t recommend Ricardo’s. I’ve been there. They serve a bland disastrous plate of cheese.
Chips and fresh salsa came to the table. Not cooked or canned tomato sauce. Fresh tomatoes with jalapeno and cilantro. Very good. The salsa bar is gone, so I was wondering if there were other salsa options. Annika, our super fantastic server explained, pick what you want from the sauce selection on the menu. In minutes we had the red chili and the TexMex on the table to dip our chips in. This is the good stuff, made from dried chili peppers.
Chuy’s is a large comfortable restaurant. The walls are busy with pictures of everything. Where we were sitting, amusing caricatures of French Bulldogs dominated. The food was wonderful. Cheerful, personable Annika, provided flawless attentive service! My TexMex has been rediscovered in Tulsa.

Read moreUpdate:. Menu has been reduced and the prices have gone up a little. The lobby wait was unpleasant. It was cramped and crowded. I will give the the benefit of the doubt in that they couldn't seat people faster. Service was good considering I was part of a party of 20. Had to ask for napkins and the was no offer to refill my water. But that was about the worst of it. The queso and salsa were spicer then I remember. The main course was palatable. Just the jalapeno ranch dip, queso and salsa really over shadowed it. Still all and all I would go back. Again just not often.
Above average tex-mex food. Little bland and a little pricey. However, overall a good eating experience is to be had here. I had tacos alcabone, wife had mixed fajitas (chicken and steak) and my daughter had quesadilla. Each plate came with sour cream, guacamole and diced/sliced/chopped lettuce, onions and tomatoes. Fajitas smelled wonderful and looked fantastic. Quesadillas came looking more like tacos then Quesadillas. My tacos came two to the plate but were large and stuffed with fajitas chicken, cheese, onions and peppers. My chicken was a little bland and so was the steak that my wife shared with me. Not so much that I wanted to send it back but the lack of spice/flavor was noticeable. While not really authentic Mexican food it was still good. I will go back...
Read moreI visited Chuy's several weeks ago with business dinner. The doctors office hosted a meal in the party room. They choose fajitas with all the trimmings absolutely delicious. I made a 2nd trip last week and ordered the enchilada platter. It was delucious 3 types of enchilalads, beans and rice and taco with chips and queso. It was absolutely delicious. The prices are very reasonable. The chips are milled very fine. Many resaurants have very thick chips which are not as tasty. I ate myself silly eating the salsa and the jalapeno ranch dip. Sèrvuce was spot on. I am current unemployed so I appreciated the large value of food and the small price tag. It was the chips and salsa that really brought it home for me. Orders come with complimentary Chips, Salsa Fresca and Creamy Jalapeño. The diner's right in front of me took home bags of chips with the creamy jalapeno dip and so I asked my server. And he gave me a bag of chips which were divine and then too little cups of the creamy jalapeno dip and. The softwthe salsa Fresca, which was also divine.charro beans do not contain lard; they are 100% vegan, making them suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. The beans are cooked with water and salt and are prepared without lard or chicken stock, unlike the practices of many other Mexican...
