Honestly this place was disappointing for the price. The food was fantastic - hats off to the chef and kitchen staff. But the service did not match the quality of the food, which was unfortunate. We went for the first time last night to celebrate my father-in-law, and I really wish the experience had been more positive. To start, when we walked in the door, the hostess had her back to us and turned around surprised, saying “oh” before saying “hello.” Rather than asking us a question to get us seated, we waited a beat and had to ask her if this was the entrance. After getting seated, things were fine. The restaurant is a bit louder and closer quarters than you would expect. Our waiter, Matthew, came by promptly with waters for all of us, except our toddler daughter, which was fine. But I did have to ask twice for him to bring her a kid’s water, and he clarified a third time before bringing it. When we had questions about the menu, the common answer was along the lines of “I think so, I’m not sure, but I’ll check.” Unfortunately, we were never informed of the answers after he left - so I’m not sure if he checked and things were fine, or if he never bothered, or just forgot. My husband ordered the Seared Sesame Ahi Tuna, which per the menu comes with noodles. When the food came out, it all looked fantastic, but my husband’s plate had tuna and lettuce on it. When Matthew came back to check on us, my husband asked if the tuna came with noodles. Once again the answer was “I’m not sure, I don’t think so, but I’ll check.” This time, he did return with an answer, which unfortunately was that it does come with noodles, but they were out, so they were serving it with salad. Rather than asking if there was anything he could do, he immediately walked away after sharing that information, before we could respond. Salad cannot be a reasonable substitute for noodles without forewarning or attempt to rectify what that what came out is not what was ordered. The experience would have been much more pleasant had the server offered to substitute something else, get him a different entree, or even take a charge off of the bill. The rest of the night was fine aside from being flavored by that experience. Then again, as we were leaving, the hostess had someone with her and was standing in the doorway giggling with him as we attempted to leave, so we had to get her attention so we could step out, which was quite an awkward way to end the whole experience.
The service was decent but I would not say exceptionally friendly. I would not pay that amount for a meal again when the experience and atmosphere are not as desirable as the food. I’m sorry to the chefs here and people working to make great food. And also to the staff who may be going above and beyond. I hope the standard for service can get up to par to make this place the gem it...
Read moreThe last few times that I have been to doc's, one being my birthday and the second being a friends birthday we have been treated extremely poorly by the once waitress turned manager (I cannot remember her name or she probably didn't give it to us but either way she's blonde with a short haircut). In both cases we made reservations for groups of 10+ people. Of course not everyone arrived on time and that's okay. We were seated ordering drinks waiting for the remainder of our party to arrive when the "manager" came up to the table and rudely interrupted our conversation to ask us "when the rest of our party would be arriving because they're almost 45 minutes late and they were turning away tables to accommodate us." Mind you, no one walked in to be seated that got turned away, there was several other empty tables on both the patio AND inside, and majority of our party was present AND ordering drinks as we waited. Even if they were turning people away there was only a small table in the corner of our group that could be taken away to be used for another party and even then they would have been extremely way too close to us because umm COVID. This is not the first time this same person has done this to us and she is now a manager on her high horse and decided she didn't like the response that we gave to her and decided she would tab us out and make us leave. We asked to speak to the owner Darin who had just come by to our table a few minutes before her to ask if we wanted the heaters turned on and he didn't seem to have a problem with the rest of our groups tardiness. We asked to speak to him again because he seemed to be a bit more reasonable and unfortunately that was not the case. He pretty much told us that he believed his staff and not the paying customers and that is when we decided it would be best for us to take our business elsewhere. We went right down the street to Ol' Vine who sat our large party immediately and we had an amazing brunch to celebrate my friends birthday with delicious food and excellent staff that was friendly, attentive, and professional! Your loss doc's...
Read moreMy best friend and I had plans to have dinner Monday night and decided on Doc's Wine & Food on Brookside. As we walked in we were warmly greeted by a very nice server who quickly got us a table. The bubbly girl ended up waiting on us. She was very friendly and was quick and knowledgeable, when answering our questions. It was happy hour when we arrived so we started out with a cheese plate and sweet potato fries, accompanied by the tasty house red wine that was also on special. Both starters and drinks arrived in a timely manner. The cheese plate was excellent, with a very high end selection of cheeses and the sweet potatoes had a delicious yet unusual balsamic reduction drizzled on top.Now it was time to decided on dinner. My friend and I were a bit full from out starters so we decided to split a Doc's caesar salad and their seasonally prepared duck breast. In the meantime we ordered another glass of the house red wich was a very nice Californian cabernet sauvignon. Our salads came out split with out either of us having to ask. This caesar was not traditional but was a very fresh and different spin on the classic. The romain was tossed in a casear dressing where you could actually taste the anchovy(which my bestie and I love), it was then topped with house made croutons, sun dried tomatos, kalamata olives, parmesan cheese and a light sprinkle of bacon bits. Yes bacon bits, it added an unusual kick to salad. Needless to say my friend and I made short work of our half salads and moved on to the duck. The duck came out cooked to a perfect medium rare on top of fresh cut from the cob corn mixed with peppers called "maque choux" and braised greens all topped with a honey bourbon glaze. This dish was artfully prepared and the presentation was beautiful. The mix of flavors was perfect for a cold winter night, yet not to heavy or over bearing. We finished off the night with one more glass of the house red instead of dessert. This was a meal that I would go back for week after week, where the service and food were a...
