Upon arrival, my first impression was an unpleasant odor that permeated the entire restaurant. It smelled to me like some type of pungent or off fish - not a great sign for a sushi place, but it is possible it was either something else, or an intentional odor. Either way, it was off-putting.
Wife and I ordered a couple of appetizers. I ordered off the entree menu, and one hand roll and my wife ordered 2 specialty rolls. My entree was brought as the very first thing and for a moment we were both confused because we thought it might be one of the appetizers. We clarified with the waiter that this was my entree and I asked why it was being brought to us first when we had ordered appetizers. The response was that my entree took less time to cook than the appetizer!
I explained that appetizers should always come to the table first (I mean, that's kind of the point of appetizers...it's basically their definition). He then agreed with me (why it took me stating this for him to realize I have no idea), and he said he was going to see what the hold up of the appetizer was. I told him we no longer wanted it as my entree was here. It was another several minutes before the sushi was brought to the table and as it was my wife's meal, I had to let my entree sit and cool for several minutes while we awaited her food.
We were not given an apology or really an explanation beyond this by the waiter or management, so I would have to rate this strange service experience pretty low. My entree was fine. Nothing special, but no real complaints on the taste or quality apart from the broccoli being barely cooked/steamed.
My spicy tuna roll was basically tasteless. Without the soy sauce or wasabi it was essentially chewing on nothing. As an aside, their wasabi was one of the tamest I've ever tasted and didn't much help to mask the flavorlessness of the roll. Interestingly, their ginger was incredibly pungent - not sure I've ever been served ginger that strong with my sushi.
My wife had two of the specialty rolls and she was very pleased with their taste and quality. Based on just those rolls alone she felt it was one of the better sushi places we have been to in the Tulsa area. However, due to the rest of our experience it is unlikely we will be back when there are other options.
UPDATE: To the reply by the restaurant below. No, thank you. I have no need to talk to management. They had an opportunity to address it at time of my visit or to train their staff appropriately. You can't salvage my visit. Good luck doing better with...
Read moreBrief wait; about a minute, we were greeted by a smiling hostess who promptly seated us. The seats are very comfortable, the table was clean and set for two, the lighting was very pleasant and not overstated. Our waiter, Justin offered us drinks they had my favorite Pino Noir, Elouan which was served in a proper thin walled glass with a nice size bowl which is absolutely perfect in my opinion. Hubby ordered Hot sake, he said it was quite good and hot (like temperature not the spice).
We started with fried pork Gyoza which was bursting with flavor and served on a bed of iceberg lettuce and shredded purple cabbage. We would like to recommend replacing the iceberg lettuce with green cabbage for an even more appealing texture although it was a beautiful presentation as it was as you can see from the photo. Our waiter helped us decide between pork or veggie: we took his advice and chose pork. The sauces it was served with was delectable and we even requested it waits our sushi. Thank you Justin!
The shape and heft of the dish the Gyoza was served in was an excellent choice!
We had the Sashimi Platter followed by the Pink Sunset which were both beautiful presentations as well as delectable down to every morsel!
We will be back!!!
For whatever reason google didn’t have a place for me to upload my pictures this time so please see my Yelp...
Read moreMe and my daughter was so excited to celebrate a milestone in our weight lose journey. We choose Maguro because we both love sushi. We had to wait for a table, no problem. When we were seated we asked for a booth and was told it was for bigger parties. We understood, until a 2 man was seated right behind us. Waiter came with waters ( didn't order them) and asked if we would like something besides water. Me and my daughter both ordered a honey green tea. Waiter comes back with one. We sat for 20 minutes waiting on Waiter to come back to take our order. Never seen him till we got up to go pay for the drink he came out of the back. The hostess was rude and very discriminating towards us. My daughter is mixed race. I feel it was due to that, that we were discriminated against. Not sure what the food tasted like but the service was pathetic. We will not return nor will I EVER refer this place to friends and family. If you look different than the world don't tempt to dine here. They are very judgemental. We just came from the gym so we weren't decked out in our attire. But regardless we never should have been treated like trash that is taking out the back door. Shame on this place...
