Very nice Thai restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, outdoor gardens, quiet bar area and a spacious let cozy dining room that exceeds your expectations on every visit. We have been numerous times over the years, and although the pricing is very affordable - under 20 per person, we tend to come here when we have a special occasion like a quiet family birthday dinner or something. When we have an occasion for a very nice meal, a quiet -peaceful atmosphere with superb polite service, Tropical is our go-to. We always order the famous lettuce wrap for an appetizer which my wife says is the best she's ever tried. I agree. This time we tried the "Corn Cakes" too since there we 4 of us. Think of their corn cakes as really tasty- and I mean really tasty corn nuggets that are a larger and flatter across the surface made with herbs and very small green beans- so small you really can't recognize them. They provide 4 of them and a sauce in a small cup to pour over them if you want a really tasty peanut sauce to flavor them. Our friends were shocked at how tasty each one was. With only 4, we just cut a few in half and they still satisfied. Oh, and they have a lunch special 7 days a week so if you go on a weekend and want a very nice lunch, you can have it. They have little gardens all around the restaurant where they grow their own spices and vegetables which is a nice touch. My wife always order the Pad Thai, I order the Pad See something (not sure the name). Pictured is one other dish from my friend, but everything was very tasty. So if its just a nice business lunch, a quiet special occasion, or you just want a nice place to go for Thai food- this is it. I don't know what it is about the dining area, but it is more quiet than most restaurants in Tulsa, something we like on certain occasions. This is on my must-visit list if you come to Tulsa too. You will...
Read moreI visited Tropical Restaurant about 6 years ago and got some take out and no real reason at all I haven't been back. The wife and I decided last minute to go out rather than cook at home after working all day. I looked on Google maps at Asian, Thai, and Japanese restaurants and decided I'd like to revisit Tropical.
We were promptly seated and our waitress came right over with waters and asked if we would like something other than water and showed us their drink menu. After a briefly reviewing their menu I decided on the E2 Panang (a red coconut curry dish) while the wife ordered the E22 Pad Cha but couldn't decide if she wanted beef or chicken and the waitress suggested doing a mix of both beef and chicken.
My dish arrived first while the wife's arrived moments later. Unfortunately, my curry sauce was on the cold side so I informed the server and she took it away and they remade me a new dish and even brought out a fresh bowl of rice. I must add my 2nd dish had to of been expedited because it was delivered back to the table in what felt like minutes.
My Panang was very flavorful and the beef was tender. The wife's dish actually had more content to it, meats and veggies, compared to mine but over I wasn't mad about because my dish was awesome. I did sample from my wife's Pad Cha and it was also great. If I could've had my curry sauce with her meats and veggies it would have been perfect.
Overall, the service was great and the food was equally as good. I look forward to returning in the near future. I didn't get a photo of my meal but I posted...
Read moreBecause it's a little outside my typical Tulsa stomping grounds, The Tropical tends to fall out of the rotation and I often forget how good it truly is. From the outside the place looks unassuming, but inside you'll find a beautiful, expansive, fully stocked bar, clean and spacious dining rooms, and a knowledgeable, attentive serving staff. There are a wide variety of menu options from traditional Thai food and house specialties to pricier 'off the grill items." The Tropical offers a lunch special that runs from 11:00 to 3:00 where most entrees do not exceed $14.
They were out of Chang Beer (Thai) so we ordered Mai Tais that were generously poured with a nice balance of fruity and nutty flavors. Whether it's your first time in or you're a regular customer, the Lettuce Wraps are spectacular and portioned as a good appetizer for four. These appear to be a house favorite. We selected the Kaprao and the Nam-Prik Pao Fried Rice as our entrees and were highly satisified with both; although, the Nam-Prik Pao Fried Rice (which we got with stir fried pork) was definitely the highlight. The tangy ginger sauce which coated the fried rice paired well with the savory pork and the tartness of the julienned apples. Will DEFINITELY get this dish again.
The overhead lighting made it difficult to get good photos w/o shadows and I neglected to get a photo of the lettuce wraps. Dishes came out piping hot and looked great - but photos wouldn't have done the food...
