Food and Flavor - Very unoriginal and underwhelming. The patties were thin and over cooked, lacking in flavor or juiciness. Toppings were unappealing.. I chose a double with conventional toppings, cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, pickle, and tomato. Fries were fresh and delicious, though slightly over salted. A double from Wendy's would have been much more flavorful and needless to say a much better value, which I will address in a following point.
Service and Presentation - Very fast food like . Order numbers were assigned, and hollered out when ready. You were expected to walk to the back counter to get your food like a Burger King or Wendy's, even though your paying a casual dining price. The peanuts on the floor work at Logan's with the rustic Road House look and feel with the wooden floors, but the peanut hulls on the floor at FG's just felt dirty and gritty, as your feet will slide around on the tile floor. The red and white had more of a abandoned hospital/asylum feel from a horror movie set in the 40's, but with better lighting. The sacks of potatoes in the dining area was a bit confusing, it had me asking myself "Do they sell those sacks of potatoes or did they just run out of room in their stock room." The complimentary peanuts were self-serve from a huge cardboard box lined with a trash bag set on top of the checkout counter; a wooden barrel or something a bit more permanent could have added to the décor. I was told that Five Guys was started by some firemen , though a quick web search could not confirm that. Maybe they were going for a fire station theme , but I didn't see it , and it didn't work for me.
Value - Very, very, poor! For the 12 bucks and change , I wanted an ultimate burger experience. I asked for purple onion , but that wasn't an option.. sure they had white and grilled , but for a premium burger, I feel purple is a must. Iceberg lettuce, the least flavorful of the lettuces, was the only lettuce available. The other add-ons didn't sway me to try something new. I've had burgers from fast food to casual dining, plus I make a mean burger at home on the Weber, burning mesquite chunks , toasted, buttered buns with cheddar and bacon with grilled onions. There was nothing unique about the burger at FG's. I live in a small town and I don't go to Tupelo that often, when I do, I want to enjoy the extended options of eateries that's I don't have locally. I completely wasted my time and money on Five Guys. For a better choice in taste and value go to one of the following: George's in New Albany, Hardees , Burger King , Wendy's , Sonic, or any burger from a steak house. I have gotten better burgers at each of these places, especially at George's. I have not tried Mugshots or similar establishments. I had heard by word of mouth that Five Guys and Mugshots had great burgers , though a bit pricey, so it wasn't just the price that was disappointing; it was what I received for the price that disappointed me. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but for the price premium I felt high expectations were warranted. I went in hoping for a unique atmosphere and a delicious burger. So if your like me , the only unique experience you will get at Five Guys Burgers and Fries will be the price. You will pay more than you have ever paid before for a burger; and it won't come close to the best burger that you have ever had.
UPDATE 10/16/23 I've since returned based on my daughter's desire to try it out. My wife daughter and myself ordered 3 burgers, one order of fries and 3 drinks. The burgers were better, fries the same. I think the portions of the fries were smaller: Total was $53 dollars. Value was still very poor, I've still had better fast food burgers. Mug shots or bulldog deli is much better for a comparable price. And its full service instead of self serve. Fast food like product and service at casual dining prices , I still...
Read moreThese guys went above and beyond today. We stopped by for some lunch, got our food and everything, well my kiddos were starving and my LO grabbed his burger a little fast and it fell on the ground. He was so upset because he was hungry and he was crying so I went to order him another one, and then two of the men working saw he was upset and remade his burger for him at no expense. They even got him a shake and made him promise to eat his burger first then he could eat his shake and he ate that whole burger to keep his promise. I can’t tell you how much that brightened our day. My LO was so happy. Thank you to those young men for going beyond...
Read moreLove the food. Quality and quantity of the food is always on point. Would've given 5 stars, but recently there's been 1 or 2 grumpy employees who aren't as nice as they should be. Long story short: I asked would they please make tea when they got a second and she said um yeah. Well we were there for about an hour and not once did anyone of the employees that weren't busy try to make tea, wipe tables, or anything. Another lady also asked about 20 minutes after I did for someone to make tea, but I guess that was too much of paying customers to ask. Hopefully me and my family will have a better...
