My boyfriend and I went to Baumhower's on a whim on a Friday night. We were both craving some good wings and a couple of drinks, so we thought this would be the perfect spot for a good night out. Boy were we wrong. On the plus side, the wait time for seating was not very long and the decor was very sports-friendly. There were tvs everywhere and that was nice, considering the NBA playoffs were that night. But on the negative side, the service was not good. Our server was somewhat cordial, but seemed very fake. I don't know if she was close to being cut or not, but we felt very rushed. I ordered a salad and took three bites before she tried to take it away. We ordered a pitcher of yuengling and it tasted very stale. We got our food promptly, but in my opinion the wings should not be featured in the name of the restaurant because they were average at best. I have honestly had better wings from Pizza Hut. Being that there was a game on and a team playing that we both liked, and considering it is supposedly a sports bar, we were hoping to get to enjoy the game there. Unfortunately, every 10 minutes or so our server, a busser, even the manager came by to try and shoo us away. We are not difficult patrons and having been a server for over 8 years I was grasping what was going on, but I feel if they don't want their customers to sit and enjoy big games in their restaurant, then why market watching games there and have so many tvs in the first place? I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone but those impatient and indifferent enough to have a rushed meal with so-so taste. For the price and the lack of customer service, it's just...
Read moreAs someone who worked here during college, I always used to look forward to visiting baumhowers whenever I got a chance to come back into town and eating old favorites. Well this past time might be my last time. The service and atmosphere were normal sports bar with alabama memoribilia everywhere, but the food was a completly different sotry. While I worked at baumhowers I worked in the kitchen (5 years) so I know how the food quality was (and should be) for various menu items. Most have not changed since I was in school so I was excited to order items that I couldn't get anywhere else. I started with the wickles (sweet/spicy pickles); they were over cooked and hard and once they cooled down just a bit the breading was completly coming off. I couldn't eat more the 5 so definitly wasn't worth the price. Only good thing was I got a hot lip or two that snuck in. For my main, I ordered the allie marie sandwich with mashed potateos with a small order of gooey fries ( really the main reason I came iykyk). The sandwich came out and the bun was soggy, barely any gravy on potatoes and the gooey fries were so disappointing. There was barely any gooey cheese on the fries and I could tell I got the bottom of the last batch of fries as there was nothing but small pieces. As someone who held such a love for this place and the food, only to come back a few years later to such a disappointment is unforunate. And couple on top of that the prices I walked away paying over $50 for a less than subpar food experience. Hope this...
Read moreMore than half the menu is fried in what tastes like old, re-used burnt vegetable oil. (Says they use vegetable oil on the menu which is why I ordered “Fire Roasted”). The “Fire roasted” wings are actually deep fried first, (in the old, re-used burnt oil), then covered with some very greasy “parmesan” cheese then “fire roasted”. Actually tastes like they re-heated the already fried wings in the over-used burnt oil. Couldn’t eat it and I never leave wings uneaten. 3 wings in actually made me nauseous. Discarded the rest.
Expected wings “Fire Roasted” $16.99
“FIRE ROASTED WINGS Our legendary Buffalo wings fire-roasted with garlic Parmesan & lemon-pepper seasoning, sautéed onions and fresh Parmesan cheese. Served with scratch-made buttermilk ranch.” Well, it wasn’t good. Not sure if humans should eat it.
I recommend the health department check that oil! Seriously! Vegetable oil is terrible for your health. The fact that they promote it tells you they don’t care at all about nutrition or what they feed you, yet they serve what sounds like is going to be good food. This equates with a typical fast food restaurant quality. Like McDonald’s or Wendy’s.
Manager didn’t care. Server was great! They had TVs and a bar if you want to watch a game and drink a few (just skip anything fried in the burnt oil). Location: Tuscaloosa south. I recommend...
