The food and location were great, but the waitress could have been better organized. We had a group of 12 in the reserved lower level room. We're all easygoing so when the waitress told us they were very busy and short a person, we completely understood. We weren't in a hurry and really, the wait times were short. The drinks were delicious (I recommend the hot apple pie drink) and prices were reasonable. The same with the food - good prices and delicious. I love the cranberry turkey sandwich! The decor is older, but it was clean and in good repair.
Our waitress, who was very friendly, was very unorganized. She even started her introduction with, "I'm a bad waitress. I used to be a bartender so at least your drinks will be good." Although the actual bartender made the drinks. She said "Sorry" about 50 time, but it was only annoying because she was saying it for no reason. Nothing to apologize for most of the time when she said it and our entire party was relaxed and friendly with her. The waitress used an electronic tablet to take orders, but didn't ask which people were together right away, which would have helped her later (she admitted that). When she brought the food out, it was chaotic only because she couldn't tell what the different sandwiches were. We had to do a lot of plate swapping, but eventually we got everything sorted. Food was delicious and perfect. We each got a sandwich and most had two beverages. One person got a dessert.
She came back and checked on us twice in about 10 minutes time after we got our food. I'm pretty sure her legs had to be burning from doing those stairs so much. Then she said, "I guess you all want separate receipts, huh?" Not the most polite way to put it but yes, we had four groupings of 2, 2, 4, and 4. She sat down at an empty chair and explained that scrolling on the tablet was difficult. She started tapping and said she didn't understand how her co-worker has no problem scrolling but she couldn't get it. She said she'll write them down and make the changes on the buffet computer screen upstairs where she could see it all better. She has to run back upstairs for paper. Back down again and sat down, and then almost had to go back upstairs for a pen. She found one in her apron, and said sat down again to start writing out the groups of orders. A little more confusion on her part as we all patiently and clearly went through each groups orders. I was sitting next to her and watched as she wrote them out and helped her, and the final looked right. As she went back upstairs, she said, "I hope I can read my writing." Back with the bills, and every bill had one or more errors - missing items or extra items. I don't know how she messed it up when she had it all written correctly. We wrote the corrections on the bills, and she went back upstairs again. Bright the corrected bills down, and 2 were right and 2 were still wrong, just different wrong and not the way the corrections were noted. If it was something small, we wouldn't have bothered, but one group had quite a bit extra on their bill (meals and drinks), while others were missing several drinks. She ran back upstairs again and back with the corrected bills. She missed the 2 coffees on the one bill again for the third time. Wee all just wanted to make sure we paid for everything we were served. She said, "Well then you're just going to get free coffee then." Yes, I still tipped 20%, because she was nice and she tried.
So I recommend the food, the drinks, and the location, but no guarantees if you get this...
Read moreKind of stumbled across this place as it's relatively close to our hotel.....and glad we did.
I went outside my norm and got the special of the all you can eat soup and salad, as it appeared to be popular with many patrons.
The chicken noodle soup was good, but the beef barley was hearty, full of flavor, and freaking awesome. Salad was good too (if there's such a thing as good salad)....but was full of fresh veggies, ham, cheese and had thick chunky blue cheese dressing.
Another in our party got a huge sandwich (called the Wisco) with pretzel bread...he said it was great....and was the best German potato salad he's ever had (his wife is German). He said it had a unique sweetness to it.
Our server was on it! She was busy but still polite and super attentive.
I would consider the atmosphere definitely reminiscent of Germany, as everyone in our party has lived in Germany at some point in our lives, but not alot of German items on menu.
My only complaint is I won't be able to enjoy this place once I...
Read moreI have been going to Kurtz’s for years. I feel their pricing and quality have not increased together. Today I ordered a salad which was their daily special. Salad was fine, but $14? A little steep. I received a small portioned cup of dressing which was nowhere near enough for the large salad. Asked for another and the waitress brought me some but didn’t tell me it was going to be another 75 cents for a tiny cup of dressing. Soda was $3 but was flat, told the waitress, nothing happened. All in all for a salad and flat soda with tip it ended up being $22. In no way was that lunch worth anything remotely close to that price in Two Rivers. They also charge a 3% credit card convenience charge without telling you. I appreciate transparency and I ended up paying an extra $1.38 for salad dressing and a credit card fee I didn’t know about. That little stuff grinds my gears. Come here with caution. Sometimes the food is delicious and sometimes it is dry and bland. Not my first recommendation anymore...
