So, I generally don't like loud and boisterous restaurants. And Walk-On's is loud and boisterous. But I'm not going to dock them any points for that. It clearly says "sports bar" on the outside, so I knew what to expect walking in.
I figured the music would be loud and energetic, and that there would be a million TV's lining all the walls. And yup, that's what I got.
What I didn't expect: A bona fide amazing Louisianian-themed restaurant masquerading as a sports bar. But that's what I got!
Looking over the cocktails menu, the drinks are a bit pricey--over $10 for most everything I saw. But, luckily, it was Sunday happy hour, so I got a perfectly decent bloody Mary for $5.00
I started with the "Devils on Horseback"-- fried shrimp with bacon, creamed cheese and jalapenos. These were incredible. The shrimp were huge, and generously wrapped in bacon. There was just enough jalapeno and cream cheese to add a touch of flavor, but not enough to overwhelm the taste of the shrimp. These were served with some kind of sweet and spicy sauce that paired well.
For the main course, I had the "Redfish Rudy"--blackened redfish, with warm tomato salsa and Louisiana street corn. The redfish was delicate, without too much spice (which I was a touch surprised at, as blackened dishes tend to be a bit overloaded with spice). The delicate fish meat paired very well with the tang of the hot tomatoes and cilantro of the salsa. The dish was good as it was, but was improved a bit with a dash of Tobasco. After the spicy drink and shrimp, I felt more spice was needed to bring the fish up to the same flavor profile.
My server, Kyla, was very attentive and respectful--every request was met with a "yes sir." You don't hear that often these days, and it was nice.
I spent around $40 for the drink appetizer and seafood. A bit more than one would expect walking into a sports bar, but perfectly in line with the amazing meal I had. They have other dishes on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying...
Read moreThe food is not the problem. The customer services is awful. Their manager Aarron Deluca is the rudest, most impolite individual I have ever encountered in a place of business. He was even bold enough to tell my family and I that we were NOT welcome there any more and insisted that we leave right then. After fixing a correction on our bill, the problem for us was resolved. However, the manager escalated the situation by returning to the table with a gang of employees to surround our table. One of the employees actually put their hand on the shoulder of one of the members of the other family while she was seated to make her get up. Where they just that angry over having to make a correction? They were using intimidation and discrimination in the presence our minors. The situation began when we arrived at the restaurant and were seated near others we knew from our church. We talked during dinner and when it was time to pay our bill, $30 in gratuity was added. We questioned this and were told that since were talked the whole time, we were considered a party. But we were seated at two separate tables. We did not arrive together. We did not sit together. But because we "talked" we now had to pay the gratuity. Then to make matters worse the boyfriend of an employee, Sydney Reagan, sends a comment to me on their website review stating the I was just "looking for a bad experience." So nonetheless, I will not be going to any Walk...
Read moreWhile visiting my nephew at UT, we visited this restaurant. Ignoring reviews that stated to stay away and walk out we decided to try it out on on own. With a party of 13 we were excited to dig into our food. The wait was average time however, the food was very mediocre! Even though the food looked tasty it was very bland! As my sister pointed out the salt and pepper shakers were proof! To top that off my husband and BNL both ordered gumbo which came out with 2 small cut sausages, no chicken, rice, and roux. Absolutely no substance or heartiness! There was absolutely a lack of meat. (where’s the meat)??? When both pointed this out the waitress, took it back and said she would let them know. The waitress returned with a message from the manager that stated if you send it back, whatever they send out, you are going to get the same. As the waitress stated she wouldn’t order it either! The customer service and comment from management was subpar as well as absolutely ridiculous! The manager was so trifling he didn’t even come to our table to acknowledge the situation! How sad that we found out that we too should have walked out as well! Also, my niece ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp, of course the starter came out with undercooked bacon which had to be sent back as well! First and last time at this mediocre restaurant!!! Great advice from reviewers, stay away and find another good restaurant in Tyler, Texas. Pay attention to...
