Greg's Haystax — Restaurant in Umatilla

I am a huge supporter of local business, so very sad to leave this honest review. This place is well priced for our area. The HUGE killer is the staff. All are terrible with customer service and we dread getting one lady who is outright nasty. They are never friendly and do not refill drinks. At breakfast we feel like we have to beg for coffee which you pay a high price for.....and I am only a 2 cup kinda person! The toast is ridiculous. Always comes out as bread and the one time my daughter asked for them to toast it, they brought a 5 year old black toast! The last time I went, I asked for extra crispy bacon and it came out limp. Now, I am the one who cooks in my large family and have members who enjoy limp and crisp, so I know both can be done. When I asked her to fix it, it came back less than a minute later shrunken and a rock from the microwave. We have a large family, so spend a lot of money when we eat out....and we enjoy eating out. We dropped in here while at a soccer tournament this afternoon. Had never heard of Haystax—just found it on a Google search. Listen to me and listen good: This place is AMAZING. My son had the chicken wrap and my daughter and I both had burgers. Fresh. Fast. Delish. The service was awesome. The waitresses work together on every table. So, don’t be surprised if someone different brings your drinks or bill to the table. Very hometown feel. Clean. Friendly. Great service. Do not drive past this hidden gem. Fair prices for what you get. They close early-afternoon, so be mindful. Breakfast until 2. Yes, please, and thank you. Exactly what we have been missing in Orlando—a diner that does it right. I might take the 1.5 hour trip back to Umatilla just for another hearty, good meal at Haystax. Google Maps has it a little twisted. It’s on a side street. The sign rests high, so look up! Haystax, my new favorite diner. North Lake County, you’re blessed to have this place...

I have been to this establishment 3 times now.

The first time my friend and I grabbed food on the go. It was good. That was 2 years ago.

The second time was last week. I had a Country fried steak and all that it comes with. It was good! I ordered my husband a Fried Catfish sandwich to go. He said it was good. The server was polite.

The only thing I didn't enjoy about that visit was the employee that was standing by the register who rolled her eyes and perhaps was having a bad day but was not nice when asked for a to-go cup. My friend wanted to pour the rest of her iced tea into a to-go cup. She should not have to receive all that attitude and the eye roll. My friend has been coming to Greg's since it's been in Umatilla. This is why I did not give this place a 5!
