Starbread Bakery — Restaurant in Union City

The seniorita bread was FRESH out of the oven. I ate one immediately and burned my fingers but it was worth it. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and butter and so soft and pillowy. It's hard to only eat one. It's even better when dipping it in coffee so makes a great breakfast treat. They also have donuts but I only wanted seniorita bread at this time. I will be coming by more often.

It's baffling that this place is rated less than 4.5 stars. I think most of the reviews are from people who have never even been here, or are just upset about being asked to wear a mask, which is ridiculous considering the store is very small and it is not a bad precaution to require.

Either way, when I came here, I was not asked to wear a mask. Although they do ask only one customer or party inside at a time, again- not a bad precaution since the place is very small. I personally would not want to be rubbing elbows with people in such close distance, pandemic or not, it's more about personal space for me.

I guess people are unlucky or sensitive when it comes to their service here, because I was helped by a woman who was extremely kind. She even asked if it was ok that the 12 piece senorita bread I got was in a bag opposed to a box. Im fine with a bag since I'm gonna inhale the bread within a few days. There's also a sign that mentions 12 piece or less is in a bag so I appreciated that she reiterated the fact.

Hello let me make it plain and simple this review is not by any means to convince you the reader ultimately you are free to make your own decision, this was my first time at this business on thanksgiving day I was introduced to the Señoritas pastry and it was a hit really good so I drove from San Jose to union city to buy them it go’s good with coffee when I arrive I was surprised that after walking in I was confronted and told I would not be served if I did not have a MASK, I then told the employee I did not have a mask and that the mandate is no longer in effect it’s voluntary basis if people want to wear it is there choice he then stated that owner and manager are the ones that set the rule in their public business. So then I ask do you have any mask he said yes for $2.00 dollars another customer saw this an gave me a mask an I was able to finish my purchase. to everyone out there you will have no choice and on top of that if you don’t have a mask you will be charge $2.00.for one mask which for a few more dollars you can buy then at Costco or any store. But here you will pay $2.00 for just one a disposable mask. I don’t have any problem if you choose to wear the mask but if you MAKE your customers wear it that is not right that’s wrong so specifically to people that have medical conditions or allergic to mask or breathing conditions you are now...

Not fresh today and horrible and rude customer service. Starbread bakery is usually great. Great service and everything. But this woman, who claims she is the owner, really ruined my experience and my craving for the place. I simply came in and bought 30, I noticed the señorita bread wasn’t fresh/hot and asked for another box. She instead argued with me claiming it was fresh but I felt it wasn’t because the bread was not moist in the inside it was stiff and also when eating it there was a dried piece of flavoring/ sugar that got stuck to my tooth. A whole piece. She was very unprofessional and unsanitary. She left the whole shop, leaving the register empty, to follow and grab a older man’s box (out of his car) and opened his box to show me and let me touch it. Somehow she thought that would prove it was fresh. I guess because she thought if it was good enough for him it was for me. The box she had was cold at the bottom and the señorita bread didn’t look fresh at all. Overall, I am writing this review because her customer service was horrible and she did not need to exaggerate and make the situation worse. She called the chef to say it was fresh and everything. But it wasn’t and I even had another customer try mine and he agreed it wasn’t like usual or fresh. The lady pictured was so angry with me for some reason and I felt she would do something...
