We went to El Porton in Union Gap for a good meal for a special event with 15 people in our party. I ordered the Mar y Tierra, this is what I always order at El Porton Union Gap and Zillah locations. I ate half of the carne asada and then had ONE piece of shrimp, it tasted gross, I thought maybe it was just me so I told my husband. He picked up one shrimp and smelled it, he told me to not eat it because it was spoiled. I waved our waiter over and told him, he then just grabbed my plate with half of my other food on it and took it away. He came back without my plate and asked if I wanted anything else, I told him no. Party ends, I overhear the staff in the back saying I ate my food and the waiter has to charge me full price. So I’m mad and I tell my husband I’m walking to the counter with him to pay because we are not paying full price for food that was spoiled and food that I didn’t eat. We get to the register and can hear the staff talking about the shrimp. The cashier comes out and my husband explains to remove the price of the shrimp from my meal. The cashier says, “No, it’s funny that you send it back when the food was already half eaten.” My husband asked her if they even smelled the shrimp, she said “Yes, it smelled like shrimp.” We both disagreed with her, I told her I ate it, it was disgusting. I get that meal all the time, I know what it’s supposed to taste like. So to stop arguing I told her, yes I did eat the meat, charge me for the carne and rice and beans, we are NOT paying for the shrimp. She said no, my husband said fine charge us full price, we frequent both locations and we will just go to Zillah. She said “I’m not trying to argue but you ate the food, and you just want a free meal.” In unison we told her YOU are arguing, we agreed to pay the full price and you still want to argue. She walked away angry and charged us the full price of my meal.
I hardly complain about these things but the way we were treated and the quality of the food is not good business. I don’t think they deserve our business anymore and would strongly suggest you take my review into consideration if you’re deciding to go to the El Porton...
Read moreWe have been customers of El Porton for many, many years and I have never been this disappointed with their service. We called on a Wednesday to make a reservation for a birthday celebration on Friday of the same week for a party of 8. We confirmed the reservation over the phone with the hostess. We called early on Friday to verify that our table remained reserved, to which the hostess replied that it had been canceled. Suggesting we get there early if we wanted a table. Now, how can someone with a party of 8 be expected to wait for a table, on a busy weekend, where there will most likely not be any tables? We asked to speak to the manager to which then their tone changed stating they could reserve our table. This call happened around 5:45pm. Reservation was for 7pm. Got there early. We overheard a hostess or waitress saying, “oh, they got here?” We went straight to our table. Waiter by the name of Horacio took our drinks and meal order. Brought out our meals and drinks. However, he did not check on our table for the rest of the dinner. We saw him walking around the other surrounding tables and serving others, but not once did he approach our table to ask if we needed anything. We tried to signal him over but he would not stare our direction. He knew it was a birthday celebration since that is what we had called our reservation for. We needed napkins, wanted salsa, needed tortillas that he said he’d bring, but never did. Refills. Nothing. We had to ask a different lady cleaning tables if we could get our dad an ice cream treat for his birthday. We were all VERY disappointed in this waiter’s service. I don’t know if it’s because he knew the backstory of me wanting to speak to management for canceling our table reservation. Never expected this from El Porton and I DO NOT recommend this place any longer. We ALWAYS tip, even with bad service, however, this “service” was not deserving of anything. We have met the owners working the restaurant and they are very friendly people. But these waiters and servers that have been there for years no longer fit my...
Read moreI haven't been at this location in a number of years. I now remember why. I usually have an order of tacos when visiting a Mexican restaurant for the 1st time. In my opinion, the quality of this dish is an accurate representation of the entire menu. Bad tacos.........well. The shells were the kind out of a box you can purchase at your local grocery. The meat is obviously kept in a grease filled food pan and poured into the shells because the bottom was already soaked with oil and the contents fell out of the bottom as soon as I lifted the 1st taco off the plate. I don't know what others like in a taco but my preference is meat, not an oil soaked shell with equally saturated carne. Price. The old adage, "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply in this instance. After visually scanning the prices of the menu, alot more was expected. Will not be making a...
