My boyfriend and I came up to Yakima for some business and decided on Best Western Plus Ahtanum Inn for our stay. We also have two dogs that are my ESA animals, which I have letters for that I was prepared to send to them. When we got there to check in Katie was the one that assisted us. She unfortunately wasn't very professional and didn't exactly seem to know what she was doing. When we had called to make the reservation we had asked if we needed to bring the card that we were paying with, as this is was a business trip so a company paid. They said no however once we get there Katie had pointed out that we did in fact need it which caused a little hiccup in us picking up the room key and getting settled in. This wasn't the biggest deal to us however. What I would like to point out is that I suffer from anxiety and PTSD which is why I have my dogs. Katie informed us that Best Western does not see ESA animals in the same light as a service animal. I offered documentation however she stated that legally she can not ask for this despite me offering it willingly (as they are actual letters from my physicians). She asked what task they preform for me but still proceeded to charge us for both. Another BIG issue I had is that this was my youngest ESA's stay at a hotel. With that they are bound to be a little nervous hearing people. She apparently was barking so the hotel called us within a few minutes of us leaving and saying we have to come back. We both truly understand that the enjoyment of others matters just as much as our own however when we walked up we couldn't hear anything. We stood outside the door and heard absolutely NOTHING. When we went to open the door we had noticed that there was a large treat on the ground. I have MANY issues with this. Not only did they open the door freaking our youngest dog out even more (who was in a kennel as mentioned above this was her first ever stay in a hotel) but they disregarded the sign on the door to not disturb, entered our room without notice or permission and gave a treat to dogs that they don't know without our permission). This is a serious issue in my opinion. While the breakfast selection was good this doesn't make up for the other issues such as stained sheets, the way they handled our dogs/my lettered ESA's and everything else that has been mentioned. When we were leaving we both looked at each other and said we would never stay in that hotel again; coming from two people who hardly stay in the room and are mainly out. I really think they could use a refresher course on...
Read moreI was hoping to give this place 5 stars but there were a couple of things that pulled it down one star For Me. Overall the hotel was nice and I had no serious complaints. I have however stayed at the other Best Western here in town and found it to be just a bit nicer. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice large TV and cold air conditioning. The bathroom had your standard condiments of shampoo conditioner lotion as well as body wash and also had some extras such as Q-tips a sewing kit a shower cap Etc. The room was Tastefully laid out with a nice workstation at the desk with plug-ins and USB plugs right there on top. This is nice to have in our digital age. The staff at check-in we're very polite and nice. The dining room area was very large and encompassed two rooms and a very nice breakfast layout with enough variety to accommodate just about anyone's need. Some of the breakfast items included scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs, yogurt, orange juice and apple juice, a variety of muffins and other pastries, fruit including oranges apples and bananas and your standard coffees. Also included were chopped ham to put on your eggs tortillas, cheese, hot sauce, sausage links, seasoned potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. There were also waffles and syrup. At this location you get real plates and real silverware to use. With all of these things this should be a five-star experience. However, there was one major thing that stood out and that was in the shower. The inside of the shower curtain was covered in long dark hairs. I had to wash them off before I took my showe and more were discovered during my shower. For this reason I have deducted one star as this should not happen. One other thing I would like to comment on regarding breakfast is that the biscuits were hard and crunchy rather than soft and moist and the gravy was more of a white sauce with pepper flakes in it. The scrambled eggs were also pretty crumbly and looked more like they were powdered eggs rather than scrambled eggs. With as nice at breakfast as they had laid out it would be nice to have real scrambled eggs. One parting suggestion that I would like to see is seasonal fruit. This hotel is in a rich agricultural area and fruit is easy to come by during the growing season. Having fresh cherries, cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, apples, peaches, nectarines, berries Etc would really be a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again but a couple of minor changes would improve...
Read moreI'm adding a star after the owner responded. Even though the response made very little sense, ignored what I said, and was probably partially a lie, I was a little unfair. The hotel is average, and deserves an average rating. However, I am not going to "tattle on" other guests, and I don't believe for a second they ask where I work because they're randomly going to give me an additional discount after I already have a reservation.
How do I describe this place? It's a clean, yet trashy-feeling place. This reminds me of the places I stayed in when I was a kid in the 80s, but something should have changed in the past 30 years. The rooms have been what I would call updated, not remodeled and it seemed fairly clean, but it just felt like somewhere I didn't want to be. The people outside my courtyard door (having a courtyard and a door to it is a plus, I'll give them that) were playing music on their phone and smoking.
This seems insignificant, but it is my number one complaint: they asked for my employer at check-in. Why on earth do they want this information? She said "the manager likes to have it." I didn't provide and she didn't force me to, but it is inappropriate. The check-in experience was unprofessional all-around, with them talking to each other and ignoring me throughout most of it, and she was awkward at best. Also, why do you need my license plate number? Do you have a problem with people parking here and then . . . I don't know . . . walking across the street to the mall with more than enough parking? It just felt like they were doing things "because" and not with an actual reason. I would stay here if the price was about a third less, but not for what...
