Eh, if you like da most ono grinds east of the Pacific, dis da place to go brah! (Make me miss Hilo!) Da Teri Beef broke da mouth!, Da best I evah had! Da Chicken Katsu is ono as well. Da Mac Salad was about average for Hawaiian kine, but dat still mo bettah dan any udah kines. Da rice nice and sticky, da way it's supposta be. Not shua why dey do green salad wif da udah stuffs, more mac salad be bettah, but was ok. No foget da shoyu and katsu sauce! Hang Loose! .../ Update: I congratulate Kalani and her crew on your success! You have a unique product, a beautiful aloha spirit, and a strong desire to go above and beyond for your customers. I hope that your success will soon take you to a location that can handle the overwhelming amount of business that your restaurant has attracted, and a staff that can handle phone orders, rather than not answering, and get the wait time consistently below 15 minutes. My guess is that your inadequate location, and inefficiency is probably costing your business hundreds of dollars a day, at least on the days that I've had my call ignored, and have waited 30 minutes for my order, after standing in line for 10 minutes to place my order. Alii' Cove has proven that people will pay the high cost for unique delicious food. specially if dey like wea' aloha shirt and slippahs. Mahalo for bringin' da ono grinds to Universal City. I like bet dat if youz waz closa to da cinema, dat yer business would quadruple, if ya could handle dat much, stay open from 10am to 8pm 6 days, and nevah make nobody wait for long. Oh, and the other reviews are right. The music is too loud for that small building and low noise level. even for a half deaf guy like me. Great music, but...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I ordered well ahead of time so we wouldn't have to wait long as we both were really hungry, after the time it gave, we arrived to the restaurant only to find out the delivery app somehow didn't inform them of our order. And hey, that's fine, apps mess up.
What created the two stars is that after they found that out, they didn't take ANY initiative to start on our order. Typically restaurants will bump the new order up if it's from someone who had already ordered and the restaurant's mistake so they aren't kept waiting even longer than people who walked in well after.
So we ended up at that restaurant for nearly, if not definitely, an actual HOUR. Meanwhile watching people come and go. It was ridiculous. And when we finally received our order- the cashier gave us two canned sodas which is a nice gesture, but not exactly for an HOUR wait all due to their lack of proper customer prioritizing.
We've had restaurants from time to time get issue with ordering online type stuff and not only do they prioritize our order, but end up offering extra food for the wait. Not some canned soda that was about a dollar.
Our first time there and definitely our last. People review and say the food is great but... where's the good customer service? The food wasn't even worth that wait.
Normally I have very happy reviews, but yeahno. Not this...

I’m Samoan & I also use to work at a L & L Hawaiian Barbecue. So let me tell you that I have a pretty good handle on what Pacific Islander food is suppose to taste like. & this place was DELICIOUS!
The staff is so sweet & I would’ve never guessed that the restaurant was new because the food was so awesome! I totally wish they were open longer!
I went there with my Aunty & my Grandmother (who uses a wheelchair). The restaurant has ramps & is spacious so very wheelchair friendly.
We went there for their buffet day. & we got there right when they were about to close so they were so nice that they gave us a discount on the buffet & let us pack as much to go plates as we wanted! Unfortunately we missed the Katsu Chicken cause they said they ran out of that first. (Which doesn’t surprise me cause I freakin love Katsu chicken).
The owner greeted us & told us about how he’s from Hawaii & he first started out with a food truck. My Aunty was stationed in Hawaii in the Army, so they had a lot to talk about. My Grandma speaks mostly Samoan so she was just happy to see a fellow Pacific Islander.
I look forward to coming back with my visiting family because we have been itching to find a great Hawaiian barbecue place. And I can’t wait to try...
