Shipley Do-Nuts — Restaurant in Universal City

08/20/2022 NEW REVIEW: Just so everyone knows, Shipley's has raised the price of their donuts over 100%. Donuts that used to be $1.18 are now $2.69. Absolutely laughable. These people have lost their ever lovin minds.

Shipley's donuts are normally amazing. But the store on Pat Booker has got some serious issues. Tried to give this location multiple chance, but this last experience was it for me. One, you can barely understand the people working at this store. Nothing against people from other countries, but if you are going to be servicing Americans, you might want to hire some folks that speak understandable English. My largest complaint is that when you order donuts and are told that everything you wanted, they are out of, there is simply no excuse for this. Especially at 10 A.M. in the morning! This store needs to get their act together. Will not be going back. Plenty of other do nut shops out there.

08-19-18 Ok just gave them another chance. Big sign out front reads "Under new management". So we were hoping the issues that caused us to stop going here may have been resolved. Uh...NO. Hey management, whoever you new managers are, this store has the same, exact issues that I spoke about a year ago. Here goes....Again, the same ladies who didn't speak English a year ago...surprise, surprise, they still don't speak it. Well, except for "Sorry we don't have"...and the only reason they speak that one phrase so well is because they say it so often. How do you run out of the same donuts every single blessed time?? Someone in charge, get into that store and inform your employees "Hey, if you keep running out of a particular...

Sunday, December 15, 1:30pm. "Open Sign" left on. Spirits immediately raised (because donuts are life). Door locked. Soul crushed.

Donuts are Soul Food. They are a treat; a delightful, delicious moment to escape all the ill in the world. Shipley's Donuts are the best in town. And this location is the closet to Randolph AFB. Having early morning hours is amazing. And I appreciate that to the fullest. Do we need a change to hours of operation? Maybe. Not my lane to say...what I will say is this:

I'm not accustomed to being asked if the one donut I requested to be included in my mixed dozen cost is too high. The price was visible with the name of the donut requested by name. This seems rude at the time. If it weren't for my daughter being with me and the trip was to surprise Mom, I would have left without purchasing anything.

Not sure what is causing such rudeness nowadays. I stopped going to M&M Donuts because the male worker boxing my order assumed I had not paid the lady on the register. Attitudes like those, I would much prefer to see them out of business and replaced with more courteous establishments.
