I wish we could tous les jours this place, but alas it disappoints. We had real high expectations from the place given that it’s in the loop, has a prime spot, and such rave reviews.
We were skeptical to try the macarons, but those were some of the best ones we’ve had. We were excited for the coffee bun and the croissant and we felt a Walmart bakery does a better job. We also had the milk bun, which is funnily a Japanese dish but found in a French bakery. Mediocre to say the least.
Almond croissant: The expectation was something mildly sweet, nutty, and buttery flavor. Instead e got a croissant that had bitter shaved almonds, not flaky and rather flat. The almond paste had a creamy texture, but tasted almost like butter rather than frangipane.
The coffee bun looked very tempting, but my husband said it had a burnt taste to it. There was no filling and had a crisp texture. This apparently is a Mexican dish as a friend highlighted. Tasted no coffee whatsoever, but the smell was very pleasant. Wonder what went wrong there.
The milk bun had no filling either. It was a soft doughy, lumpy bun with a tablespoon of condensed milk that almost tasted raw. We’ve had one from an Asian grocery store that was frozen, but tasted bomb. This was nothing like it.
The macarons were spectacular and we wished we had gotten those by the dozen. We tried the blueberry lavender which was very rich, very lavender, and very moist. The salted caramel was exciting as well though it was more sweet than salty. The hazelnut brittle would have been a better flavor had it been an ice cream, but no complaints. The macarons were big in size and fresh tasting. Wish we weren’t as disappointed with the other items else we’d certainly drive the 20+ miles to grab them. Désolée mais...
Read moreALERT: this might be the best dessert I’ve ever had from a bakery!!! Top 3, not 3! That’s saying a lot coming from a Southern soul born and raised in North Carolina. I love my peach cobbler, apple crisp, and red velvet cake, etc, but this dessert changed the game for me! Chocolate chip cookies are easily a top 5 dessert for me so the crookie was an easy choice for me. This was the first time I’ve ever seen my two favorite carbs combined in this way, bonus points for the innovation. This delicacy was perfect in every way; the cookie was buttery and moist, balanced with the perfect crunch level and the croissant was flaky and an airy piece of heaven. Ignore the candles, this was my birthday treat to myself and I couldn’t have asked for anything better on my special day.
This was my first time visiting St. Louis and I didn’t have high expectations of what the cuisine scene would be like, but I’m so glad I found this bakery within walking distance of where I was staying in University City. The shop had such a unique ambience, set up and selection. When you walk in its carbohydrate heaven, you grab a tray and make your own way around the display cabinets of treats and grab your own items. They offered typical staples but also had a selection of treats you may not typically find. Service was friendly but please expect and a long wait if you go close to opening and on the weekend. The line was out the door and stretched down Delmar which let me know I was in the right place. Overall 10/10 for taste, experience,...
Read moreI’ve been to Tous Le Jours locations all over the US and in Korea for the last 10 or so years, so I was insanely happy that we FINALLY got one in St. Louis. Every single location I’ve visited has had great business and there are almost always lines or some sort of wait, so I figured this one would be no different so close to opening. I was impressed at how quickly the staff were helping customers and although it was late and a Friday night, they were putting fresh pastries out to keep up with the rush. I got several items and a drink, all of which upheld the standards of the other locations.
I got an iced matcha oatmilk latte and added lavender syrup, it was delicious. I ate my strawberry and cream croissant while there and took my other treats home. We took home an egg tart (Portuguese), a matcha creme croissant, a garlic and cheese croissant, a sausage and cheese pastry. Everything was 10/10 and my family and friends will be patronizing this location frequently.
*Also wanted to add a little above and beyond moment. My friend and I left and got all the way to her house only to realize her phone was missing. We called the store at 8:03 and they closed at 8pm but they still picked up. We were maybe 10 minutes away and they were incredibly forgiving and kind to let us know we could come back for it as they would be cleaning up for a bit. Every staff member we encountered was so friendly and polite. Please...
