High-Tech quality operation here - you won't find anything else quite like it. The unique thing about Chester Springs is its robotic milking system. There are not a ton of them in the state and it's pretty amazing - the cows decide when they'll get milked and just wander in and out 3x a day. The robot washes the cow's lady parts and then hooks her up and milks her with no human interaction at all. The robot also determines how much of what feeds (grass/grain/silage) the cow gets, depending on where she's at in the milking cycle. It's pretty amazing. Then some of their milk is processed locally to be made into their ice cream - the rest goes to be made into butter, etc. (Land-O-Lakes I think they said...). Keeping with the high-tech and by-the-numbers approach- they also price the ice cream by weight, every cone is weighed before they hand it to you, and the price is never quite the same. No doubt this provides them with all kinds of data on what is selling...how much waste there is by type, etc. etc. just more of a very organized approach to farming. Seems some of the other reviewers had some problems with bees - I didn't notice any bees anywhere the day we were there, and based on how organized and efficient they were I can't imagine a problem like that wouldn't be very quickly addressed... I mean they keep special boxes of ice cream in their freezers for people with various food allergies so they don't cross-contaminate by dipping multiple flavors. That's over-the-top customer service, so it would not be in concert with that for them to let a bee problem go haywire. Those folks probably hit it on...

The cost is outrageous, even my female friend who is usually very kind said it was shocking how little she got for $5.
They weren't even friendly. It seems like a family raking in a fortune on a working farm that doesn't even have trash cans or a good amount of hand washing stations etc.
Oh and people were wandering back to where the beehives are because the sign for them is way before the actualy bees. I joked I wondered if the sign was warning the bees and not people going.
Total cash grab and not recommended. Or at least don't buy anything, maybe just go to show your kids the animals.
Which reminds me I saw a couple where the guy was dangling his child inside the goat, etc, enclosure and saying the animals were going to eat her.
Then when she understandably didn't find that entertaining he was trying to console her saying he was...
Read moreWell where should I start...... It's a total yuppy ice cream store. My boss and her daughter and I came to grab ice cream and pet the farm animals that they have. We all went in and used the bathrooms. We got looked at like we were not welcome from both employee's and customers. Needless to say we just left the store. We walked around to feed the animals. That was a disappointment as well. There was a lame baby sheep that needed medical attention. Poor little guy had a broken leg and got no help. Then we went to the chickens. That wasn't any better. All of the girls had their beaks cut so far back I'm surprised they could eat or drink. Oh and right next to the tiny chicken coop was the cows. You could see every bone in the tailends of them. I really was disappointed. I have family that owns farms and they would never treat their livestock that way!! I would never support any business that is more concerned with making money than helping the animals that make it...
