Attalus Coffee — Restaurant in Vacaville

I have been wanting to try the coffee here for a while and today while my wife ice and I were near downtown Vacaville, we decided to stop in for some coffee. Attalus Coffee is located in the corner of the funky 5 way intersection as you enter downtown from Merchant St. There is street parking and a couple parking lots nearby, so parking is not an issue. It’s a cozy coffee shop with a handful of indoor tables to sit at and a table with a couple chairs out side for you to enjoy your coffee at. The employees working were very nice and helpful. The gentleman who took our order was very patient while we decided what to order. He was knowledgeable about their offerings and describe/answered our questions about the coffees. I decided to order Black Sage Honey Latte (cold) and my wife ordered the Wildflower Latte (hot).

They can make you coffee order both hot or cold. The Black Sage Honey Latte had a hint of honey, but I did not really taste the black sage and there was a fragrant smell/taste of the orange zest that was on top of the coffee. The Wildflower Latte had a very fragrant smell of wildflowers, but when you drink it, the strong fragrance did not translate to the drink, just a hint of fragrance. Both of the coffees tasted good, not overpowered by the flavorings and the coffee itself was not motor oil strong. If you like very dark tasting coffee, what we ordered is not for you.

Wow! What an amazing coffee!! The best way I can describe good espresso drinks (latte, cappucino, etc) is chocolate-y. Not the same flavors as chocolate or sugar, but soft and nuanced. Unfortunately, most coffee houses use dark roast coffee which produces robust bitter flavors, but eliminates the complexity that results from light or medium roasts. I am a regular Temple Coffee (Sacramento, Davis) customer, and Attalus seems just as good- which is excellent. It's a whole level above Peet's and Starbucks and requires professional training. I had a cortado with oat milk. I haven't tried the other coffee drinks like pour overs, so this is a limited review. Other stuff: Attalus has lots of windows so the seating was sunny and a great place to hang or work, outdoor seating was cute, the service was friendly, but I don't know if they have wi-fi. They were also serving food which looked and smelled great (the patron next to me had a gorgeous pancake thing with loads of fresh fruit, but I didn't see it on the menu.) They are only open Th-Sat 8-3 and don't have a window sign yet. They share space with True Roots Juice and that is the sign you will see from the street. I love this place! Kevin and Marissa put so much thought into what they create… From their coffee to their pastries.

I personally have Celiacs disease and can’t do gluten. They have gluten free and vegan options for pastries which is so hard to find in Vacaville. Not only that, they literally taste so good. Don’t even notice a difference. I swear they have curated the best gluten free flour. I probably get 3 Morning Glory muffins a week (yes, they are that good). There’s nothing like coffee paired with a pastry for me in the morning. I love that everything is seasonal with such fresh ingredients.

Their coffee isn’t just coffee, it thought about, curated, hand-picked internationally and roasted independently by the owners. I love that they make their own syrups in house. Homemade pumpkin spice and vanilla bean… Yes! Because who wants the artificial syrup out of a pump bottle. So grateful for even this attention to detail. My personal favorites are the iced coffee tonics. Sooo unique and truly so good. I’ve never had anything like them anywhere else.

Love the atmosphere. Love the staff. Love the vibe and especially can’t get enough of their creations :) SOOO glad Vacaville has something like this now!...
