I have been a loyal patron of Shannys for quite some time now, consistently enjoying the delightful experience your establishment has to offer. My wife and I have always relished the delectable array of dishes on your menu, particularly the succulent steak bites, which have become a favorite of ours. The ambiance of your outdoor seating further adds to the overall enjoyment of our visits.
However, I feel compelled to bring to your attention an unfortunate incident that transpired during our visit on the 12th of August. Upon completing our lunch, my wife and I found ourselves facing an uncomfortable situation initiated by a bus person on your staff, who was sporting an assortment of tattoos and an eye-catching hat adorned with a design reminiscent of the PDX airport carpet. In a rather overt manner, he singled me out and inquired loudly about a vape I was holding in my hand, causing nearby tables to turn their attention towards us.
While I understand the need for your establishment to maintain a strict policy against the consumption of marijuana on your premises, I must emphasize that the vape in question contained no such substance. It was distressing to find myself being questioned so openly in a crowded setting, especially considering that my actions were completely within the boundaries of your guidelines.
What made matters worse was the continued behavior of the aforementioned bus person. Each time he passed our table, ostensibly to clear other tables, he would cast a pointed gaze in our direction, deepening my embarrassment and contributing to a growing sense of unease. Regrettably, the cumulative effect of these uncomfortable interactions, coupled with the fact that he did not return to bus our table, led my wife and me to prematurely conclude our visit, a decision we would not have made under different circumstances.
It's worth noting that a similar incident occurred the night before, involving another employee. However, the individual involved in that case addressed the matter with a significantly more respectful and kind approach. This highlighted the stark contrast in how these situations were handled, and it further underscored the disappointment we felt during our visit on the 12th.
I am reaching out in the hopes that this incident can serve as a catalyst for a discussion among your team regarding more sensitive and respectful ways to address patrons in situations where suspicions arise, but without concrete evidence. I believe that fostering an environment of trust and understanding between staff and customers is pivotal to the continued success of any establishment.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter and hope that steps can be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Thank you for your time and...
Read moreThis is how legends are are made! In dark bars that are dripping with neighborhood atmosphere, where the iced tea comes in pitchers and the regulars flow in and out like the tide. Honestly I’m not a drinker and bars are not usually my bag, but any place that will welcome me to sit a spell with a pitcher of iced tea and plenty of ice has got my attention right outa the gate. My friend got a club Sammy and tater tots and I got a BLT and the Irish Nachos, because the BLT is the canary in the coal mine and the Irish Nachos is one of them things that shouldn’t make sense but does anyway… you know, a paradox. I ordered a paradox. Now the BLT is generally a delicate thing made for high tea with uplifted pinky, but this sandwich was a He-man of BLT’s! It was muscular, Smokey, toasty with thick rough bacon, every inch a man’s sandwich. I bit into it feeling like I was getting my macho card punched. Really, it was a great sandwich! And it came with some of the best thick home made potato chips I’ve ever had. I could live off those and the iced tea and Netflix. The Irish Nachos were a fine and dandy mess and I would wax poetic about them, but I’m already starting to bore you. They were great. My friend’s club Sammy was a tower of magnificence and he was thrilled. Neither of us could finish and we boxed up for great leftovers at home. Someone here in what is arguably a standard neighborhood dive bar cares about their food and takes pride in what they are doing. It just goes to show you that amazing things can hide in plain sight. Relaxed, comfortable, interesting, good food. Portland got...
Read moreWe stopped here because of the WiFi and it was near to where we would be meeting with friends. It was very full and active when we arrived, so it took a while to find some parking but we finally did. When we sat and ordered, we were not offered a regular menu and used the menu that was already on the table, which offered a Happy Hour selection. My husband I found good selections, and the food was very good. However, when we were ready to pay, we were told that we had to pay another charge of $2.50 apiece for our waters. We were upset that we were being charged $5 for water and when we brought it up to the staff we were told that the Happy Hour menu is only available for a minimum $2.50 drink order. We were never told about this policy, or given an opportunity to actually order something that would have been worth the $2.50 charges. They pointed out some small writing on the Happy Hour menu and told us it was printed somewhere in the mess of words there, but my husband is a wounded Veteran and has impaired vision, and I cannot see in such low lighting, so it was not available to us as disclosure. When we were ordering only water, the waitress never brought it to our attention that we needed to order a minimum drink order to use the Happy menu, nor did she offer us a regular menu to order from instead. If we had known about this practice, we would have found another place to have our supper, but we were not afforded full legal disclosure at Shanahan's, my husband and I left feeling mocked...
