I have Michelin star chef experience (La Toque, The Flagstaff House), and I can say confidently that Croissant and Co. is truly a world class French bakery. Based on the pastries alone, t's undoubtedly the best overall food establishment in Venice.
I'm not big on sitting down and dining, but grabbing some pastries to go. I wake up late and rarely catch the elusive almond croissant, but it's otherworldly. Best pastry I've had anywhere in my life without a doubt. MAKE MORE YOU CRUEL FRENCH TORTURERS! :)
The apricot pastry is gorgeous and also one of the best pastries I've ever had.
Of course the chocolate croissants are great but don't miss the almond or apricot ones in favor of the more popular option. They are truly special.
The only bad pastry I've had was the apple croissant. The dough is more leathery and the apple filling is kinda like apple sauce. Just don't order this and you'll be fine.
Owners and most staff are super friendly and extremely French. Decor and artwork is done by one of the owners. Talent and class all around. Walking in here truly takes you through a portal to Paris. I challenge anyone to walk in here and not be happy in seconds. In the unlikely event you don't find yourself suddenly in a great mood upon entering, you will be after they tie up your to-go pastries in a box and tie a beautiful pink ribbon around it (love that!).
Sincere thanks and congrats to the owners. What you've accomplished with this bakery is something to truly be proud of. I have no idea what brought you to Venice, but Venetians have no idea how lucky they are that you did.
For all tourists and locals alike, don't miss this place when you're in town! There are other good places to go, but this one of just a handful that are...
Read moreOur first visit and was so reminiscent of bakeries in Europe that we visited, from Sweden to Switzerland. I had the salmon and spinach quiche it was delicious and a very generous portion for $10, also included was a small European portion of of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, grape, apples and strawberries. It was a wonderful combination. My wife had the standard ham and cheese quiche, and she's a fanatic about a good quiche, she loved it. It was so large we only finished half of it. The pastries we got almond croissant, chocolate twist and cranberry croissant. Looking forward to enjoying them. They were running about $5 each, but appear to be worth every penny of it, the look the smell it actually made my mouth start watering. The interior is done in a very cute pastel Pink, yellows, blues, with various European prints decorating the walls. The bathrooms were clean and stocked well. The staff was extremely courteous, as my wife and I we're both overwhelmed with the memories that this place brought back when we were in Europe. We ate in the bakery and it was a very relaxing everyone was so quiet enjoying their bakery goods. It may not be a place you go everyday but it's worth trying out highly recommend it. Ohh, almost forgot their fresh breads look delicious they even had loads of alligator bread shaped and an alligator...
Read moreThis place had 5 stars from the first bite of my ham-and-cheese-on-baggette sandwich, but I wish I could give it more for the service. They were patient and great as we tried to pick from the myriad yummies in the case, but what we witnessed as we sat and enjoyed our selections is what did it for me...
A gentleman walked in, or dragged himself in, clearly a victim of stroke with one side of his body providing challenges for all the things we take for granted. He picked out a chair and put his belongings down. A jacket, a satchel, a small radio with earpiece. The owner, I presume - or maybe manager? - spoke to him with kindness and respect before grabbing a cup of coffee and bringing it to the man. The man then sat and drank, listening to something on that radio, as other wait staff popped by occasionally for small talk with him. It became clear the gentleman is a regular. The kindness the staff showed, from top down, during an extremely busy Sunday morning, melted my heart. There's still more good in the world than bad. Hate can't drive out hate, only love can. Well Done, Croissant & Co...
