I originally came to Cafe Zack when the two women owned it in the 1990's. I wasn't happy back then and I didn't go back for years.
In the early 2010's, we were in Ventura and we were driving down the street. I mentioned that I ate there years ago and it wasn't great. My better half asked if we could give them a try. We did and we had an excellent meal. I found out that the two women sold the business to the new owners.
About a month later, we had a special occasion, so I chose Cafe Zach. We drove in from Castaic, which is a bit of a drive. We arrived for our reservation and we were greeted by Hector. He remembered us by name from a month ago! We talked for a few minutes and he seated us at a nice table. I believe I had the Rib Eye steak with bleu cheese and she had the Filet Mignon and of course those amazing buttery potatoes with just the right crunch on the outside! We had a wonderful bottle of aged local wine - it was a perfect meal!
We've been to Cafe Zack countless times. We've brought many friends and everyone is very impressed by not only the food, but the great service and the wonderful atmosphere.
The restaurant has an inside eating area and a super nice patio out back. Both are great places to sit, but we prefer the patio for the festive feel. The building was a house and was converted into a restaurant. When you walk up to the front door, there's a beautiful garden you walk through, then you enter the inside eating area. You can feel how nice and cozy it is. You also smell the food ... Oh my!
Everything we've had there is fantastic. Wonderful flavors, well prepared, attention to detail and a good size portion too! They have fantastic wines that have been aged a bit - we prefer a nicely aged bottle of wine, as opposed to a wine that the tannins haven't had a chance to mellow out.
If you haven't been to Cafe Zack, give it a try! I highly...
Read moreIt is what I called an "Internet Adventure" week end. I wanted to spend the night in Ventura to be close to our Sunday's event in Camarillo. We stayed at the Inn On The Beach, I already wrote a review on it. Cafe Zack is the second part of the adventure. According to my online research, it was one of the closest restaurant that didn't look like a steak house, a chain restaurant or a sushi place. The menu sounded nice, the ambiance romantic. I was very disappointed. The place looks like it is in somebody's garage, which, actually, it is... I even wondered (and asked) if I came in by the right door. That was it for the romantic aspect of it... The food is OK. I cannot really complain about it. I ate everything I ordered, it was good but not great. The wine was OK too. The reason I didn't leave the place at first glance is because the staff was very nice, our waiter Alphonso was super friendly and did his very best to please us. The Late Harvest Viognier dessert wine we got at the end of the dinner saved it all, it is a delicacy. This is the only thing I will recommend. I would not go back, certainly not but I cannot say it was a bad experience either. My partner and I made the best of it and we laughed a lot. Glad we have such great sense of humor! I give it a 3 stars for the same reason than the hotel, it's right...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. We just happened to be in the area and searched Google for a restaurant and came across Cafe Zack. After checking their menu on Google Business profile we decided to stop for a dinner. Prices and selection were very reasonable. However when we arrived to the restaurant we discovered that the prices on the menu were much higher than featured on GMB profile. For example Filet Mignon price on their GMB page is $30, on the menu at the restaurant is $48. We decided to stay anyway. The food was nothing special and Steak was not as expected. I asked for a manager and did try to explain the cituation. The manager was trying to convince me that the prices on their menus are correct and I was looking on Google at the wrong place. How I could find your restaurant if I would look at the different GMB profile?! Anyway I paid my bill in full as charged but this incident and conversation with manager left sense of bad taste in our mouths. After reviewing further I find out that similar cituation happened about 1 year ago with different client and you can see that in one of the...
