We loved our visit at Waypoint. Staff was great, environment is very kid friendly, and there was a lot of space for us to feel safely distanced from everyone else but yet able to congregate for the evening marshmallow roasting. We stayed in the circular area of the trailers with a fire pit directly across from us. We felt that with a 2 year old toddler, it was probably the best decision to let him run around safely. Our deck was very large and I wish I had thought to pack a baby gate to let him run around in our deck. But honestly, he had so much fun running around the entire place from the middle aisle sidewalk with the swings to seeing other kids ride their scooters and bicycles around the facility, we felt comfortable letting him explore. Waypoint has 2 locations with fire pits and grills, our fire pit location also had a hammock and picnic table. They also provide public bathrooms/showers for those who bring their own RV/trailer. After 6pm, the gates are closed but you are given a code to enter the compound.
There's quite a lot of places that are within walking distance. We loved that we could walk to the beach/pier which had a children's playground. And if you walk towards town, there's a fish taco place (Spencer Makenzie's), a park with playground, and a few other restaurants nearby: mexican, brewery, pizza...all within walking distance!
The only downside of the compound is that it's right by the train tracks and it would be fine if the train operator didn't honk his horn. But this is out of Waypoint's control. Our toddler had no issues with the train noise. He slept right through it. I'd say the last horn we heard at night was around 9:30pm, the earliest at 7:30am. And it didn't bother us since we're from LA and we're used to hearing helicopters, sirens, and loud cars. But for others who might be from quieter places, be prepared that you might hear the train. Noise is very minimal when you're in your trailer and there is a 10pm-8am quiet time. We were very comfortable in our trailer. We slept well, the bathrooms are roomy, they have great amenities with pour over coffee, loose teas, and filtered water. After our short trip, all I could think about was when we could book it again! We've told our neighbors and friends about Waypoint because we just absolutely...
Read moreWe had a chance to visit Waypoint Ventura during their grand opening and got to peek in each of the trailers out of curiosity since we are local to Ventura and know what a challenge it is to find a decent hotel room. After staying there the other night to try it out, we think it is a great alternate to a traditional hotel.
The trailers themselves are outfitted with high quality bedding, normal hotel amenities such as flat screen tv's, mini fridges, bathroom toiletries, etc. that everyone comes to expect. However, what we liked the most was the outdoor space that came both with the trailer we booked and the public area. The deck/patio with our trailer was quite roomy. Because we are local, we invited a few friends over - curious folks too! - and had some wine and appetizers on the patio. It was comfortable and fun and we had a great sunset. Try doing that at a normal hotel.
There are several communal areas for socializing on site: the main fire pit - where they have s'mores available in the evening; the main deck off of the reception area as well as bbq's and a corn hole set up for all. Bikes are available to ride into town, also.
If you have a group, I really recommend looking at renting the trailers 1-6 as you could have your own compound which would be great for family reunions.
As someone who grew up camping in trailers and motor homes, these renovated trailers are definitely a different level of luxury. The trailer we stayed in had marble bathroom floors and a decent size shower. Several of the trailers had multiple sleeping areas to accommodate families.
The next time we have a need to put up an out of town guest, we will definitely book them into Waypoint and come down and join them for a cocktail on...
Read moreFor awhile now Ive been thinking about living the vanlife, so when this place popped up on my feed, I was like "why not?" I can try it out and see if i like the set up and what not. Im so happy I did, this place is absolutely awesome.
I decided to go with trailer #5 Alice & Wonderland it's one of the smaller trailers, but it was perfect for a single person. There was plenty of storage spaces, towels, toiletries, HOT WATER (i was worried about this), kitchen utensils, AC, blankets, heater, pillows and if I needed something, which I didn't you could ask the staff! This paticular trailer had small patio with chairs, tables, patio covering and string lights (lights were off at 10pm). My trailer was is in a circle with 5 other trailers and has a small courtyard with a firepit and loung chairs set up. They have free smores packages for nighttime firepit, hot cider & hot cocoa and in the morning they have complimentary coffee, tea, squeeze your own OJ, cookies and homemade yogurts. The have beach towels, bikes and I think surfboards for use and the beach is literally a 3 minute walk away.
They have water in your fridge that is in environmentally friendly glass containers that you just take to the front desk to refill, no plastic landfill bottles.
There is also a "chill trailer" filled with books, games, coloring books and other activities.
At night the main gate closes for extra security and you need a code to get in.
The service and staff were super friendly, helpful and enjoyable to chat with.
My only complaint is that there isn't a place like this in Norcal....
