Matcha's & Coffee are great...however the service of one of the female staff (the one with the short haircut, bangs, glasses & who wears the neon earrings) was despicable today. I watched today as she declined a 75 year old man service for not wearing a mask, he left outraged as she berated him & eventually threatened to call the police on him. This elderly gentleman came back with a mask a few minutes later (I would not give them my money after an experience like that) where she then proceeded to decline him service due to the previous interaction. If I was the owner, I would have a ZERO tolerance policy for any of my staff to treat paying customers like that, nonetheless elderly customers. I watched her decline MULTIPLE paying customers today & go on this power trip of mask enforcement. I understand there is a mandate, but that is not an excuse to be impolite, especially to our elderly population, nonetheless ANY paying customer. I've been here with my business partner doing laptop work LITERALLY everyday for 3-4 hours/day for the past 6 days in a row, gladly spending at least $100+ here in a week alone, because the environment is usually great to work in, but after today I will seldom, if ever come back. The rest of the staff is polite & friendly, this woman, unfortuantely ruined the experience not only for me, but for multiple other customers both paying & those who would've been paying customers had she not decided to kick them out due to her lack of customer care, manners & ego trip. I would like to see the staff to all be trained to have better customer service, respect for EVERY paying customer that walks in & to not berate or discriminate people for wearing a mask. There are some people who have medical conditions that inhibit them from wearing a mask, and others who have simply forgot to put one on... that does not justify belittlement, threats, refusal of service or general disrespect towards them.

Great little coffee shop in Ventura that was walking distance from where we were staying. I was going to go with a cappuccino but then I saw their specialty menu and chose the Sparkling Honey-Lavender Matcha instead. Made with honey-lavender syrup, matcha, Topo Chico sparkling mineral water, and ice, this was a fabulous refreshing drink. If you stop in, be sure to check that specialty menu next to the cash register and you just may find something on there to shake up your regular order.

This is an absolute gem of a coffee shop. These guys know what they are doing. They weigh in the shots and weigh out the wet pour. Quality LaMarzocco Linea PB espresso machine. These machines are not cheap and a sign of people who really care and go the extra mile. They have an EK grinder as well which is as good as it gets. We Had a Gibraltar (Piccolo in Australia) and it was as good as any coffee we have had in Australia. So many bad coffees out there. Don't risk it go to Prospect.

Updated 8/14/2023 - 5 years since the previous update. Not much has changed. There seem to be less rude, self absorbed invaders, but the ones still coming here are over-the-top inconsiderate. Updated 2/15/2018 - Casual observation reveals a very small segment of their clientele continually disrespects the neighborhood/homeowners. I'm hopeful those selfish customers that cause discord will mature.

  1. Standing in people's driveways/walking up and down the sidewalk talking loudly on their phones;
  2. 11/21/2017 - customer relieved himself in a neighbor's driveway. He said "It's OK. The bathroom was closed..." [No, this is not OK.]
  3. Customers sitting in cars before/after coffee - engines running, spewing exhaust - while they text. One woman - over 2 hours; followed by another woman - 1 hour - and then a guy 1 1/2 hours. Really? This is just rude and denies others a place to park; get coffee and LEAVE. Go to the beach or a park. This was only one day I chose to just observe the level of rudeness. It has gotten better. I told a guy his diesel van running was filling my house with exhaust. His response: "You're welcome..." and left his engine running. Really?

a) A woman gave the same response when advised she was parked in a red zone. This is (still) the biggest violation - the red curbs are for safety - to allow driver/pedestrian visibility near intersections and to ensure cars are not so crowded they can't leave. The traffic accident you avoid might be your own. b) Parking in Resident Parking Only. This is just not nice. c) Blocking driveways. "It's OK, I'll just be a minute..." The latter disrespect has improved d) Monopolizing limited parking/loading zones of other businesses. Don't park in this neighborhood, get your coffee and then disappear to the beach for 6-8 hours. Use the city -provided parking structure. e) Parking in the traffic lanes are unacceptable. Find a legal place to park, even if it's a block away. In a hurry? Then go to a Starbucks drive through. Or make your coffee at home!

  1. The business needs to provide outside trash cans for their customers so these selfish people might not throw their empty coffee cups on the street and in our yards. Providing a bike rack might help too.Maybe I won't find a bike locked to my front fence/gate...

One rude guy proclaimed "All your neighbors hate you". I disagree. It is the disrespectful outsiders that they dislike.

This is a residential neighborhood; business customers are guests. Be mindful of how you wish to be treated yourself at/in your home.

Prospect has made one slight positive impact in our neighborhood, driving away the vagrants - but even that has not been long lasting.

I will continue to edit/update my review...but I don't see it ever becoming an entirely positive one.

Pondering these unfortunate problems brings up a question: how were certain people raised by...

I want to give them a rating of 3.5 but can only give a rating of 3 or 4 so I will go with a 3 but want readers to know that I am a VERY knowledgeable and picky connoisseur of fabulous coffee and most average consumers without my level of knowledge would likely give a rating of 5 or possibly a 4.

I will study and try learning more about them. A huge big deal for me is ethical sourcing of coffee beans. I inquired about the sourcing of the beans with the guy taking my order. He didn't quite know what to say so I asked if the beans are ethically sourced and he said yes, as many people would answer such a question. So I followed by asking him what ethical sourcing of beans is about to which he admitted he had no idea.

I'll copy this review and try sending it to the owner and see if he wants to buy me a cup of coffee and meet with me to help me learn more about his business and give me the opportunity to give a better informed review.

I ordered a tall latte to be able to get a first impression as it is such a popular drink. I will also try a short latte, an Americano, and 2 straight shots pulled over a cup of ice which will bring out any negative notes in a beans flavor by shocking the coffee. After all that I'll be able to do a full review.

Most coffee shops don't make it to a place with me where I order a second drink in my process so the fact that I will be going forward to do a more comprehensive review should speak volumes to the average coffee shop consumer and tell them that they should give this coffee shop a try.

Reasons for my favorable impression on my first visit: They automatically defaulted to serving the coffee in reusable ceramic rather than a disposable cup. My partner ordered a custom special drink to minimize the acid found in coffee and she had no difficulty getting a great tasting drink where most coffee shops she nearly has to make it for them. My latte was perfectly made and delicious. They have 3 bean grinders with 3 different beans used to make coffee which to me is a sign of quality. They have a cutting edge decaf coffee which I have to try and learn more about.

I am impressed on my first visit and should I get a meeting with the owner I will share a few things that if adopted will make him the hands down best coffee shop in Ventura unless I find I am unable to give a recommendation due to the sourcing of their beans.

The hard working farmer growing the beans being roasted must benefit far more than how many farmers end up selling their beans leaving them impoverished with poor medical care and educational opportunities for his family which most coffee consumers, coffee shop employee's and coffee shop owners and employers know...
