McConnell's Fine Ice Cream — Restaurant in Ventura

What's not to like about this place. My pregnant wife and I stopped in late one night just as they were closing. The owner held the door open and helped us in. He told a few jokes and light heartedly talked to us about the business and gave us samples of all the flavors. At the end of the generous sample session he gave us two free bowls and told us it was on him and he was happy to see a new family starting out. We were so happy with the experience we have been fans ever since. Now on to the serious side of things. The ice cream is phenomenal. I first heard of McConnell's when my wife and I took a tour of Santa Barbra and we drove by a McConnell's shop there. The tour guide gave rave reviews so we had to check it out. McConnell's will not only tell you about the ingredients but the sourcing also. I am a fan of good ice cream and I can honestly say this is my favorite. This is a cool little local ice cream shop. There is not much space indoors so do not expect to have seating. The staff was really friendly. They were really good about letting us sample. Sometimes I feel like wait staff gets annoyed giving samples but that's not the case here.

I had a hot fudge Sunday. They offered to put the fudge in a different cup so it wouldn't melt the ice cream on the way home. That was a great idea and it worked out really well. My wife did the same with her order.

I had the chocolate covered strawberry ice cream. It went well with the fudge. Honestly, the fudge was the best part.

They also have non-dairy ice creams for those who can't drink milk. Do you ever wonder how cows feel about non-dairy products? I do. Worldly questions like that...

McConnell's is a great place because of the kind hearted people who work there. It gives the place an atmosphere that makes you feel at home, and the outdoor area feels somewhat refreshing, despite the cars whizzing down the street nearby. The ice cream is the best I've had in years, and the innovative flavors can really hook you. I remember only liking mint chocolate chip, but then once I went there, I tried Carmel chocolate chip, and my entire view on ice cream as a whole changed. It felt as if I was a blank canvas like all other children, and that ice cream was my first paint, distinguishing me from the rest.
