Chill Bubble Tea — Restaurant in Vernon Hills

This place is not true bubble tea. They have bubbles, yes. And nice flavor choices. But they cannot make a traditional bubble tea to save their lives. It tasted like sugar water.

I ordered an iced drink with almond and red bean. It tasted like a melted smoothie.

It must've made it extra difficult for me to order since I used to work at a bubble tea shop in Minneapolis called Tea Garden for about four years...

When I went to order I asked if I could have my drink with pearls and the girl asked which flavor. I took a moment and realized they also had popping pearls so I clarified by saying that I wanted tapioca pearls. She didn't get it. She asked me what flavor I wanted for pearls again. And I was thinking that, man, these poor employees don't even know what tapioca is. So I, again clarified by saying, "the black ones." Then she asked what flavors I wanted in my drink and I told her I wanted almond and red bean. She took my payment and I hesitated when she was going to start making it because she grabbed a smoothie blender and I was worried it wouldn't be over ice. She assured me that no, it's not a smoothie. But, I was like so what kind of tea do you guys use? And she looked blankly at me and was like, I thought you wanted red bean and almond?

I was taken aback. Since when can red bean or almond flavors be considered tea? So, I had to clarify again by saying, "do I get to choose between green tea or black tea?" And she told me that the red bean had black tea in it.

At this point I was extremely skeptical. But she already took my payment so I figured I'd give it a try. HUGE MISTAKE. I couldn't even finish it. So gross. Zero tea. These people don't know a thing about what real...

Despite all the negs, been to this location dozens of times since they first opened maybe 7-8 yrs ago and have never had an avg/below avg-tasting bubble tea or bad service.

Extensive selection of flavors & creations, have only tried 5 flavors this whole time and all with boba (tapioca)- Taro, Honeydew, Horchata, Cantaloupe and Red bean.

All are tasty but it's the Taro that I come back for the most and whenever I come to Hawthorne, always have to make a stop here before I leave. So many store closures at this mall, hope Chill Bubble Tea will...

The avocado smoothie is good. Customer service wasn’t that great today. We saw them put a creamer they said was dairy free in my wife’s smoothie.
