McAlister's Deli — Restaurant in Vernon Hills

The Horseradish Roast Beef & Cheddar was delicious... and relatively fast. Even the Sweet Tea was good. However the person working the counter was horrible. I walked up and got ignored for 5-10m, even the guy in the kitchen seemed bothered by the front desk guy not even acknowledging me. Then an order comes up and he grabs it and runs it to a table giving me a "I'll be right with you".... When he comes back, instead of taking my order, he helps another patron who was looking for a to go container and had come up long after me... by taming another 5m to personally put his items in said contsiner.... still not acknowledging me at all...

Finally, he decides to help me, by walking past me, never saying a word, and walking to the far other register, standing at it and then staring at me like I was the wierd one for going to the other spot. (Near the entrance where he had been in the first place)

The rest of the visit was betterish... but not by much, since I was getting it to go all he needed to do was call my name and hand me a bag... which he even did in a rude way.

Great Sandwhich though....

After having the southwest chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese I was quite satisfied. The flavors were good as were the proportions of the ingredients and there was a warm, subtle heat to the spices. The bread was soft, and while I prefer a crispy crust in general I thought this bread worked well with this sandwich. While I don't feel like the portion was small, I did want a little more food when I had finished the sandwich.

Fortunately, my girlfriend was not able to finish her southwest chicken salad(we have similar tastes) and I was happy to finish that. While they both have chicken and avocado, the dressing is significantly different between the two. The chili lime vinaigrette that came with the salad was really well balanced and much better suited for the salad than the spicy mayo on the sandwich. It was much lighter and complimented the salad nicely.

The mac and cheese was delicious but nothing unique. It reminded me of the same from KFC, as it had a similar softness and flavor. I happen to like both, but if you've had one you'll have a decent idea of what to expect...

Slow service and mediocre food. I have both ordered online as well as from the restaurant..

Online order was simple and time to process the order was quick. Though I arrived to pick up the order when it was supposed to be ready, I still needed to wait 5 more minutes. When the employee gave me the order, I needed to explain to him that I had not yet paid which confused him. In the end it took two more people to process payment,. In total I spent 10 minutes in the restaurant picking up an online order.

The second time was ordering to-go in the restaurant. It took 15 minutes from time of payment to when I received my food. I had been asked twice if I was waiting on an order but they never appeared to take any action to speed things up.

Management must realize that there are 10 other options within 5 minutes if this restaurant with comparable food . If they don't improve their service they will not exist...
