I have been patron on Yu's Chinese restaurant since 1990's. This new location at Vernon Hills lack both the taste and level of service level of the original store in Schaumberg by a mile. The portion size has been decreasing in past few month. Now even the rice bowl is small 3.5 inch size, and they filled our that tiny bowl with half level, and when I asked for more rice, they promptly charge me 1$ a small bowl of half filled rice, again in 3.5 inch bowl. The taste of other ordered dishese were at best the worst ever chinese dishes I have ever tasted in my life. Yu's used to be very proper Chinese restaurant. Maybe the chef was sick tonight and, whatever the reason, the taste was horrid and epitomy of worst culinary concoction anywhere.
I just had dinner of three dishes. The old reliable Jja-Jang-Myun, Kung-Pao-Beef, and Semsame-Chicken. The Jja-Jng-Myun we had tonight was the worst of its kind that I have ever tasted. The sauce was bland, almost no taste to it. The Sauce that came out was luke warm. My quess is that the sauce was made hours ahead of time and just warmed in microwave. The sauce was the worst that I have ever tasted, period. The noodle was over cooked, and it appeared that they were using regular spaghetti noodle. A proper Ja-Jang-Myun sauce require high heat, and sauce made in fresh oil. The dish tasted 100 times worse than the instant Ja-Jang-Myun one can purchase at Korean grocery store.
After tasting the sauce, we had to send the noodle back. They suggested Peking Noodle with three sea flavor. That arrived about 20+ minutes after the dish was sent back. The replacement was at least freshly cooked. IT was better, but just barely par with the home cooked ramyun based instant ja-jang-myun noodle. By the time the noodle came out we had finished dinner. So, we just tasted it, and put it in the doggie bag.
And it looks like dog will be the only on who will eat that.
The Kung-Pao beef portion size was tiny, but more horribly it was smothered in old oil. After three hourse I can still feel the oil on inside roof of my mouth. The amount of bad oil was inexcusable. I estimate the amount of beef was about 4-6 oz. at most. The vegetable were not very fresh. The taste was bottom-notch. Maybe becuase it was Thursday evening, the left-over materials were being used by secondary cooks learning and using the patron as guinea pigs.
The third dish, sesame chicken, was drenched in thick sugary sauce, which was passable, but the chicken was not juicy, but very dry. The batter was not cooked properly, the chewy under cooked batter along with the dry checken had created tapestry of horrid taste.
I don't know whether I will given them another try. It was not a very pleasant experience eating at this formerly great restaurant.
Where are you Gordon Ramsay. These people need some...
Read moreMy son and I decided to go in and order take out, have a cocktail watch the TV for 25 mins and head out. Well several tables were seated 20-25 mins after we arrived and had food inside of ten mins. At the bar all alcohol service was suspended, licensing problems I was told and that the bar was being redesigned. A sheet covered the back wall that had all the bottles covered over so it was obvious there was no bar service. The beer tappers were present and should have been removed to let you know that beer was unavailable. At 45 mins after our order time I asked the boy at the front what was going on and why people that got seated got their food, I said that there should be some accommodations made and asked to speak to the manager. The boy said that it wouldn't change things. and I'd have to wait. When the food arrived my son and I went to the car and the boy came out and wanted to check the order and it was incorrect. I had ordered cashew chicken, honey glazed walnut shrimp, a noodle platter and two orders of Peking noodles. They forgot the cashew chicken and had put crispy duck in our order. They took the food back and said it would be another 10 mins. I then spoke to the manager and said something had to be done because this place is a mess. He offered a $15 gift card but I agreed to a $25 card due to the inconvenience. I finally got the food and checked the bag and the noodles and cucumber for the Peking noodles were missing. I had to wait for this and finally left. Upon arriving at home I discovered that there was no white rice for the entrees that we ordered. I live a half an hour away and was not going back but called and told them about the snafu, and then realized this happened the last time we ordered carry out from Yu's. I called and asked to speak to the manager and was told that he had stepped out. The gentleman that I spoke to offered to give me a Peking Noodle and Cashew chicken the next time I dined in there. To say the least they have a problem there and I won't be ordering from there again. We have been customers of the Schaumburg location for 30 years and they are the standard that we look for. My wife's chicken was flavorless, my daughter noted that the Peking noodles lacked the flavor that we are used to and my Noodle platter, that should have several types of fish and shellfish, just had a couple of shrimp and some tough fish. This dish usually has shrimp, calamari, cuttlefish and monk fish and they weren't there. This is a totally thumbs down for us and we...
Read moreSummary For Each Review (Hispanic Family):
Food: The was alright, but I felt that the prices were too high for they were worth. Including the soda beverages tasted pretty off from the usual in a bad way (Pepsi Specifically).
Service: The service was straight up terrible, their was pure racism involved in this. Our waiter (Eastern Asian Male) always assisted and checked up on other Easter Asian customers. Today they were Asian customers who were served after us and got their food before us. They also left and paid for their food before aswell when we have waited for more than 20 minutes to order our food and another 25 minutes to get it. The waiter also mocked us when we were paying for our food because we gave criticism to his biased services towards people of similar race. This was unbelievable and very unprofessional (No Tip Given). There was a bus boy who ended up giving us better service then our own waiter. This is totally unbelievable and very unprofessional. Never coming here again!
Atmosphere: Once again if you are a different race from being Eastern Asian. You’ll feel the discrimination and bias towards your races by the ambiance and the waiters. The customers (mostly eastern Asian customers were problematic) didn’t respect the noise level of the restaurant and were very loud. Yet the waiters didn’t call out their behavior (racism).
Takeaway: Don’t support this restaurant for its severe racism problem and inconsistent service with every customer. Including the food was overall average and over priced for what it is. Including this was on my birthday which made the...
