This is the BEST NY style pizza in Vero Beach, bar none. It is better than the vast majority of pizzas anywhere around NYC that I've had too, for that matter. I'm not kidding. If I've had better NY pizza in NY, I would have to try it again, next to Giorgio's in a taste-off. It is that good.
Of course, you must eat it there. Any pizza aficionado knows that. One CANNOT take a pie home and then rate it against any eat in pie. That is apples and oranges. There is just no way to preserve that thin, crispy, chewy crust on take-home. OK, if you must, then order it UNCUT and cut it at home. It'll be closer since the crust won't break down as much. When we go to Giorgio's, the first slices are crispy enough to hold up under their own weight, as long as you don't go crazy on toppings. Two max! Or, you really just don't want that classic NY pizza experience. The crust is perfectly crispy and chewy, with top notch ingredients.
Don't get me wrong, their white pizza, and other specialties are insanely good too. So, don't eschew them, just understand that it will not be the same as a classic one or two topping NY pizza.
Giorgio is just an old-school, bad-ass pizza maestro. He only uses the absolutely best ingredients, doesn't cut corners, etc. and the product shines due to that. Don't expect him to chit-chat when work has to be done. When there's a break, sure, he is as friendly and accommodating as the best, but when he is in the zone, leave him alone. That's just my opinion. Apparently, nothing will let him get in the way of the perfect pie. He's usually covered just about head to toe in semolina dust, and his concentration towards his art shows.
OK, yes, you have to pay for such a good pie, but what do you expect. He can't run to the corner NY Italian market to get the supplies or order them from the local Italian supply chain that thrives in NY, and he has to be treating his water. There is no way to get that crust with tap or bottled, IMO. He is truly making one of the best NY style pizzas in the country IMO. Those ingredients are not cheap, but the pizza is...
Read moreOk so I reviewed them a couple years back and gave it 5 stars. I heard it changed ownership and it had been a minute since I grabbed a pie from here because I took another job and this place is now out of the way for me on the other side of town. The good: the pizza crust definitely improved. Holy moly was this a nice crust. Also, very generous on the toppings. It could have used a touch more cheese, but it had ton of sausage so I was still happy. The bad - the XL is not, no way, no how, zip, zill, nada 20 inches wide like before. Like a cotton shirt in the dryer this baby shrank! Maybe it is 18 inches now and they need to correct the menu? So disappointing! If you have had the XL here in the past,, you know what I am talking about. It used to climb up the side of the 18 inch box and you had to finagle the top so it would close. The one I got last night fit in there with plenty of room all the way around. I didnt measure it with a tape, but it was a bit shy of 18 and no frigging way was it even close to 20" as advertised. Tasty, yes. But no longer unique, just very pricey now for what you get since there are a good number of local pies at 18 inches for way less then the $26 I paid yesterday- on a side note, when did regular Italian Sausage become a "premium" topping? They now clip you for $5 instead of $3 for sausage, tomatoes, or meatballs - which are regular type toppings everywhere else. Just a heads up for those who remember their signature 20 inch behemoth - it looks like the new owners may be trying to pull a fast one! And for those that do not think that 2 inch difference means that much, it is like giving away about 2 slices, so the owners are saving over 20% per pie making them smaller....
Read more1st let me say I love local mom and pop dive looking places. My son wanted to meet here for lunch so we did. Walking in its dark inside with dirty blinds and signs saying DO NOT TOUCH pillow cases or table clothes covering the overhead lights. Lady up front told us there was a $4 off pizza special so my son ordered the "white pizza" she immediately stated that wasn't included but then changed when we said we wanted a large. So he ordered half white and I ordered half white pepperoni.....here's where the fun began. She rang up pepperoni (Reg) and couldn't figure out the cost. The large pizza price is $23..... FOR BOTH. SO HALF IS $12.50 each right??? She couldn't figure it out so she goes and gets George. He's trying to add charges and I say, it's the same price, just charge for the whole. And I point to the menu where both are listed next to each other. He looks at me sideways and say, you gonna let me figure this out? This is my place. I said I'm trying to help you out, it's easy, the price is right there and it's the same. He says, just give me a minute here. I replied nevermind, we'll go somewhere else. My son said as we walked out that george...
