I stopped at this shop while visiting family and made a very large purchase. Staff was very friendly and even helped me with picking out yarn for a sweater. There are variety of yarns to choose from as an abundance of needle selections and the staff was very knowledgeable about what they had to offer. I also like that I wasn't rushed as soon as I entered and allowed to browse and shop. I brought several skeins of yarn while there and several other items. I liked the shop so much I went back the next day to buy more yarn and have three skeins I purchased the previous day wound into a cake as it was going to be my first time working with this yarn so I didn't want to chance winding it myself. These three were wound perfect. I also purchased three skeins of Malabrigo while the first three were being wound and requested those to be wound as well since I wanted to start a project with those while traveling before going back home. A different person waited on me for this purchase. While waiting for the next three to be wound I went to the cafe which I also liked. Unfortunately, the next three skeins I had wound were terrible and I didn't notice until I had left the store and was at my next destination 90 miles away. The first two photos are how the store wound one of the skeins. I didn't attach photos of the other two as they were even worse. There was no way I was going to tackle rewinding until I got home which wouldn't be until 4 days later. Once I got home it took me some time to untangle the mess and rewind them. As you can see from the other two photos I was able to wind them much neater I'm not sure what happened when they were wound at the store, but I did hear the first person who wound my first 3 say that Malabrigo is hard to wind into a cake. I've never experience that and I use it a lot. My LYS says they've never had a problem before either. I noticed the store was using an electric winder and I've seen mixed reviews about them. All in all I enjoyed my visit to this shop and recommend if you are in the area, make sure you...
Read moreThe Sow’s Ear is a friendly and unique place that has more than just yarn or coffee, though it sells both. The Sow’s Ear is a community hang out, and a place where people come to meet or just be by themselves for a while. The Atmosphere is eclectic and full of art, locally crafted food and beverages, and everything a yarn or fiber-arts lover could ask for. I often run into friends at the Sow’s Ear and never feel rushed to leave. When out of town friends stop by we bring them here for breakfast or lunch and always get great reviews. The tables often have fresh flower arrangements by the same person who takes care of the exterior garden and planters and their love of flowers and expertise shows, my kids love looking for the pollinators in summer and the changing colors in fall. Often when we find a cozy coffee shop in another town we compair it to the Sow’s Ear, and often my kids ask “But does it have a yarn shop?” As if that is the pinnacle of cafe existence- and maybe it is. There is nothing quite like the Coffee Shop/Yarn Store that is the Sow’s Ear, and it is a place that is...
Read moreUpdate 05/2023 This is one ofy favorite spots in the country. Yeah, it's like that. Chill, friendly, comfortable, what a good cafe should be. Good food, good look, good drink. They customized my sandwich for me, made me hot tea at the end of the day... Man I'm telling y'all, if you haven't been, you need to check them out This spot is fantastic. I didn't really want coffee but turning down their brew is quite difficult! I got a Turkish latte which was simply breathtakingly good. This little spot is perfect for a quick grab of some great food. Their soup today was a green chili corn chowder. It smelled so amazing I forgot to take a pic of it. Their Madison melt is a crispy yet not tooth breaking crusty sandwich with the right amount of cheese. I flipped out the mustard for bacon jam and it killed. I'm not into knitting, but if that's your thing then eating and knitting is available here! Definitely try their teas too as those are a lighter hit vs the coffee but still fantastic. I relish eating here and I'm so glad they've survived...
