Good with a few things to improve on.
The Good Food - I ordered the Hot Chicken Sandwich crunchy/spicy configuration and it was A+. My wife got the MORE burger and it was outstanding. It was actually a double burger!
Kid friendly - high chairs and kids menu. A safe and welcoming place for the kids. Tons of fresh fries with each order.
Design and decor - absolutely stunning look and feel. Industrial lighting, open air seating, brewing fermenters and kettles lining the wall, custom bar stools, and a deep grey paint give the place an urban vibe
Drinking hardware - custom chalices are beautiful to hold and sip the hazy beers from
Needs some more attention The Why - I was looking in the menu for a backstory on the brewery. I mean, even Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings have some story. I want to know not only about the beers but also the brew master and their vision. I want to know "why villa park?" The menus need to include some history otherwise the brewery is simply a gut rehab that serves anonymous beers. Connect the visitors with YOUR story.
The Beer - I had the American wheat ale. I'm not a connoisseur so I won't be talking taste details since all beer tastes pretty good to me. However, I will talk presentation and offerings. The menu doesn't promote the customer trying all the beers. More needs to introduce a paddle of beer option to encourage sampling. Also, get rid of the guest taps and make your brand YOUR beer. There were no pilsner options which would be nice for hot summer days. IPAs and wheat ales are not my personal favorite for hot days. The overall taste of the wheat ale was ok however it isnt one that would have me clamouring to return. Also the menus had black lines of things that are crossed out, looked tacky.
The menus- expand the food options and print the menus on plastic. Our table was wet from the kids and the menus were destroyed. I'd like to see a nachos, taco and maybe some bbq integrated into the menu. Food was overall A+.
Servers - the servers need to sell the brewery. Again, talk some back story. Talk brewery. Make me want the beer. They should be absolute experts on the beer and brewing techniques. I got none of this and felt no more experience than eating at a TGI Fridays. You have a big opportunity to wow your guests and it starts with the servers, plus it's free from a business owner standpoint.
Attentiveness - the server forgot my kids milk, didn't check in and offer me more beer. Big revenue losses for the owner. You have to To sell and recommend the product bc I would have bought more.
Final Verdict I absolutely love what MORE is doing for Villa Park. As a former resident, VP needed something like this and I want the place to succeed to turn the area around and attract more business. While sitting at the bar I loved seeing people roll up on bikes, cars driving past and looking into the brewery, and smiles from the crowd. I really hope that MORE is more than just a pretty face. The atmosphere and decor are urban and trendy, however, I feel that there is an opportunity to take the beer and it's story to another level. I would definitely recommend checking it out. Wishing the best of luck to VP and the owners of MORE.
Wow, MORE has transformed into an exceptional local brewery. The server we had has cool, hip and super beer knowledgeable. She recommended some for my wife to try with her tacos which were the bomb. More has new brewery merch and stickers. This place is legit and has came a...
Read moreI made the mistake of showing up to More on a day when they were doing a cellar sale, so 5 minutes before they opened I was already in a line 30 people deep. No big deal, I thought, it's a nice day so I can stand here. When they opened at 12 at least 2 people walked past the line telling everyone "I'm just here to eat!" and they disappeared inside. I wasn't worried so I stayed in my spot in line. When I got to the door I was blocked by another customer who was talking to a friend, basically saying "as usual there's no directions on what we're supposed to do here." At this point it became evident that 98% of this line was going into the main door, over to the to-go area on the right, then forming a new line that stretched from the host desk to the left wall. Seeing plenty of people seated without bottles, I moved past this line and stood by the desk waiting for a host to seat me. After being ignored multiple times in favor of checking out people with bottles, I seated myself and my hungry 7-year old at a small 3-person table. It was at this point that a waitress - not even my waitress, decided to scold me for seating myself, and told me I was supposed to wait in line because they were balancing seating with servers (as if this place wasn't going to fill up immediately? Spoiler alert - it did). I explained that I had waited in line but nobody seated me, even though there were multiple people working at the front. I didn't ask to talk to the manager, instead I was told to talk to the manager! Was I reverse Karen'd?! During this time several other frustrated parties seated themselves nearby and were also reminded that they should have waited. I have no experience running a brewpub but it would seem to me that if you're doing a special release where people are lining up just for pickups, you should funnel these people into a separate line or door so people who just want to eat don't have to wait half an hour. Note there is a separate door right in front of the area where everyone was picking up bottles, but it wasn't being used. I have no idea why and there may be a totally legitimate reason.
Once I was seated and talking to my waitress, service was a bit slow but again they were very busy and let's not forget I had ruined their whole plan by seating myself. Oops. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't really mind. My 7-year old's food came out quickly but my burger took so long that they actually discounted it without me asking, which was a nice surprise.
The food and beer are very good here. I enjoy stouts and they always have a few good ones on tap. The fries are excellent. That said, after this experience I won't be going back. I know a lot of places are short staffed now, I can accept slow service when it's busy. But no employees should be scolding customers for harmlessly seating themselves when nobody...
Read moreWe were so excited, watching the progress during their build. So happy to see such a cool place coming to Bartlett. Even knew a few people who were going to be working their who live locally. I’m not going to lie, leaving this review isn’t at all what I thought I’d be saying! I’ll start with my 1st impression. Walking in to a ghost town, no one anywhere to be seen, after 2-3 minutes a very young lady appears and asks if we were there to eat or purchase something to go, when we said we’d like to be seated she said there was a 30 minute wait. Mind you, the dining room was empty and no one to be seen. So we asked if we could sit at the bar, she replied that we’d have to go upstairs. Ok, no problem. She walks us across this huge empty dining room to a back door and up some stairs. Here we see actual customers and staff, there is a huge patio which was completely empty as well, we just look at each other as we approach the bar, both wondering why we weren’t offered any of the, probably 40+ tables that were sitting empty. We sat at the bar for about 5 minutes, servers passing by, a bartender on the other side who never acknowledged us, we asked someone how we could order some drinks and she said she wasn’t sure who’d be taking care of us but she’d ask. Again. No one ever returns to help. We left. No one seemed to know anything nor did they want to seat anyone, probably because they don’t have staff. And here’s the reason for that, I’m guessing!! After this experience I reached out to someone I knew who was supposed to be working there. He said they lost some really good people because the management was skimming their tips. MORE was “collecting” all tips and supposedly dividing them among the bartenders, when they’d come to get their pay, what was expected to be anywhere from $150-$300 per shift from those really busy opening weeks were ending up being $20-50 per shift. So all the money you people tipped your bartender went in the pockets of owners and managers. Several people have quit and even fired when questions about their money arose. There has been a report made by a handful of people who worked for the company at all 3 locations with the department of labor and an investigation is now pending! Do not support this place! They’ve done some good, local community members very bad. Leaving them high and dry and unable to pay their bills after the they worked weeks...
