Had an absolutely fantastic joint birthday dinner for two at Micheline earlier this week! First time there, but we'll definitely return. The food was great -- especially the French onion soup, raspberry tart, and creme brulee. The fish entree I had (hake, which seems to be seasonal) paired with well-prepared veggies was really good despite a couple of lemon seeds that made their way into the sauce. The vegetarian eggplant entree my partner had was also a hit. The bread and butter and macchiato were also really great (may sound like small details, but the high quality really contributed to an overall elevated experience). Mocktails were great, too. Cool to see Lyre's nonalcoholic spirits on the menu. Everything that passed us by looked so good... I'm already looking forward to coming back. Definitely want to try some of their cheeses next time. If the food was a solid 8.5 or 9/10, the service was easily an 11. I can't overstate how welcoming, attentive, and positive the service was. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was probably the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. Which means so much. I don't drink and am pescetarian, so no meal out ever results in a crazy high tab. Regardless, Evelyn, the manager, and Brian, our server, made us feel so welcome and valued in a way that seemed completely genuine. They were both also very knowledgeable about the menu items and helpful in that regard. The complimentary dessert (on top of the one we ordered... our runner-up choice, which was either great luck on our part or something that was overheard) was such a sweet touch. Birthdays in your thirties can feel kind of mundane, so this dining experience after a pretty standard workday really made it feel like a special occasion. I can't recommend going for a birthday, anniversary, or other celebration enough. Thank you so much, Evelyn...
Read moreA friend and I went to brunch on Sunday. We had reservations for 11 o’clock and when we got there about eight minutes prior to 11 o’clock the door was locked so you’re standing outside until they unlock the door. That was a little odd to us, but not a huge issue. Not many tables were occupied however, we had two servers… Anthony and Ivory We started off with the bottomless bloody Mary’s They were good to start, however weakened as we ordered. Our appetizers were oysters and escargot. The oysters came with some sort of spicy mayonnaise, which we did not use however, there was no hot sauce. The escargot came, which I am a huge fan and get it everywhere I go that offers it on the menu, it was pretty bland and served with toasted wonder bread instead of a crusty bread or crustini as is typical with my experience. Then we decide we’re going to share an eggs Benedict. The English muffin was not really toasted, and the food at best was at room temperature.
When we had asked for the bill, we were speaking to one of the servers and we questioned the Wonderbread for the escargot… The explanation was “yeah I’m going to have to speak to the owner and let him know your concerns… Typically they serve baguettes on the table for dinner and for the escargot….” That translated to us… Brunch people don’t really matter. The best part of this place was the service… Everything else you might as well go to the diner for...
Read moreVery disappointed with a place that was so highly anticipated in Scarsdale. First off, there isn’t a phone number to call if you want to make or change your reservation. You have to email them. Not even the fanciest of Michelin starred restaurants would do that to customers. Second, food is expensive and not worth it. The escargot was deceiving as it was served with mushrooms drowned in garlic, cheesy, oily sauce. I say deceiving because there were more mushrooms than there were escargots but when it arrived to my table, I thought “wow, how generous with the amounts of escargot” but the last laugh was on me. The mushrooms and escargot were the same color so you wouldn’t know. I only had a few escargot and ate plenty of mushrooms. I should’ve known better since authentic escargot comes on an escargot plate and not some silver dish where you serve hummus. Anyhow, the pork chop was thicker than a brick and the Brussel sprouts were drenched in some greasy mustard sauce that seemed like the same sauce in the chicken leg confit. The pork chop was also dry. You would think the chef should know the thicker the pork chop, the harder to cook. Overall, food not great and price certainly not great. I will not be returning. Too bad as the search for great restaurants in Scarsdale continue....
