One of the worst experiences! This bakery was recommended to me by friends who were regular clients - not anymore!
I went to the bakery and asked them if they have a specific cake available. I was told not now, but they are happy to make one within one hour (8 inches cake for 49 USD). So we agreed that i pick it up one hour later. I spend one hour in starbucks to wait till they make the cake. As agreed, one hour later I went to the bakery, the big surprise the owner came out and i was told ohhh sorry, we didn't have time to make the cake but they have a 10 inch cake which they can give as alternative, (no price mentioned), when I wanted to pay I realized that they are trying to charge 130 USD. I told her from my point of view, they screwed up and didn't deliver the size we agreed, i spend almost two hours for nothing. I don't see it justified because of their mistake to pay now 2.5 time the price on top of that they waster two hours of my time. To find a solution which is OK for both parties we can agree to the middle (around 85 USD), the owner statement was take it or leave, of course she played that way as she knew i need the cake for a birthday and have no alternative.
So in a nutshell they commit to deliver something what they didnt, now trying to sell (they knew I needed the cake on that day as it was for birthday - for 2 inch bigger cake almost three times the price which we agreed. Above that the owner was super arrogant. This is clearly a scam...
Read moreWhile I always go to Martine's when I have meetings in Scarsdale, I walked past this bakery and decided to give it a try. I walked in right after a guy who just parked his car and I witnessed him walk up to the donation cards where people put quarters and grab a few from there to pay the meter. Then realized when he came back in that he worked there. So much for donations. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant for a quick lunch on the go and two cupcakes for my bf and I after dinner. When I got back to my car, that's when I realized the the ham and cheese croissant was brick cold. I guess I expected the staff to heat it up especially being a slightly chilly day. Later when I got home, my bf dived into a cupcake and exclaimed that it was probably the worst cupcake he had. It was dry and clearly old. What a waste of overpriced items. $13.00 for two cupcakes an da croissant. Never again. I'll stick...
Read moreI lived in big cities around the world for a long time, and after moving to the 'burbs I was pleasantly surprised to find that La Renaissance Patisserie was the French bakery that I wished for all along. Excellent croissants, baguettes, etc. Is every item the perfect? Of course not. But I love their commitment to going for great. They have very high standards. And the staff is usually very nice.
Realistically, though, this is Scarsdale, and there are some reviewers who just want to hate, so I'd take some of the nasty-gram negative reviews with a grain of salt. More than once, I've seen a high-maintenance customer badger the staff, and never be satisfied regardless of how much the staff tries to accommodate.
For me, I'm thankful for having such a great bakery in the place...
